Working without attachment is explained in the Bhagavad-gita by the Lord Himself:
sukhe-dukhe same-krtva labha-labhau jaya-jayo
tato yuddhaya yujasva naivam paapam evasisyasi
It means work or fight( since fighting was the profession of Arjuna). Without considering happiness or distress, profit or loss, victory and defeat.
When we work we are attached to so many things. Money is one object but we are always calculating whether this job will bring us happiness or distress, koi fayda hoga ki nahi, or will we be successful or fail. These are all attachments at the subtle level. When one becomes free from these attachments by executing karma-yoga, then as Krsna promises, one will not incur any sin in one's activities. Naivam paapam evasisyasi.
