Hare Krishna! I was wondering if anyone had suggestions about what kind of exercise and useful tips to lose weight to better serve Krishna. According to doctors, I need to lose about 120 lbs. I deal with all sorts of health issues and I usually stay in bed most of the day because of it. Any suggestions would be great, especially ways that I can devote this weight loss journey to Krishna.

    Try to avoid sugars, salts, process food, junk food, fry or oily food. Instead try to eat more veggies, healthy grains and a good source of protein like broccoli or quinoa, a balance diet over all. To lose weight is 70% diet and 30% exercising more less !!
    Start with small changes and pay attention on how your health. Try not to see it as a punishment but a good healthy decision all it takes is a little discipline.

    And yes it is a relevant subject especially among women.

    So such problem i also have always. In my childhood we all siblings were enough big kids than our friends. We were little fat and strong. Later on my father inspired us to do sports, so when i was 13 - 14 i was like an athlete doing all kinds of things like running, cycling, boxing :) other things.

    But later we changed our school and had to study more staying in city flats where we did not had yard outside. So i gained weight. Maybe extra 10 kgs which i wanted to reduce. So i started to read books on it.

    Among many books i selected French dietitian's book called "Eat in order to loose weight" his name is Michelle Montinyak. Of course that time i was not in Krishna Consciousness and nor this person is a vegetarian. But the process worked. I lost enough. Even now i eat according to that.

    I highly suggest You to read his books.

    But now we have to replace non veg things with veg.

    Also recommend to You to read Vasant Lad's ayurvedic books.

    Some tips i do to look over my weight:

    *** i prefer to sleep before 10 PM and wake up before 3-4 AM.

    *** i take very light breakfast - some fruits for 10-15 minutes and it is around 6 AM.

    *** i drink water when i am thirsty; i do not force myself to drink more than i desire;

    *** i rarely eat grains. Especially rice, wheat, oats...

    *** almost fully avoid eating sugar and things which contain sugar like cookies, cakes... i eat such things when i feel that i really should eat them; When i feel depressed; So that time i eat but in the morning time or for a lunch but avoid eating for dinner.

    *** last meal i eat around 3-4 PM no food after that; but sometimes mind gets agitated so i prefer to eat enough sweet fruits to the extent my mind is satisfied.

    *** main meal i take around 9-10 AM and eat 2-3 chapatis out of amaranth, half liter cow milk, some vegetable cooked and non cooked, some nuts, some pickles for different tastes;

    *** for a second meal  i take 3-4 fruits which i love maybe apples, mangoes, grapes or figs, 2 chapatis out of amaranth, half liter cow milk (with no sugar but with spices like turmeric, cinnamon, arjunsal...)

    And yes as Rashmi Mataji told fasting on Ekadashis will help You much.

    And no matter what we eat we have to eat food offered to Krishna. 

    And always before eating we have to pray to Lord Hrishikesh to help us to control our senses. Only by His mercy we are able to control our senses.

    Wonderful mataji. You can start morning walk and chant on your beads at the same time. Ideally, these should be extra rounds - more than your committed rounds which should be done with full concentration.

    You could do yoga - nowadays they teach yoga aimed at solving health issues. You need to find a yoga practitioner who can teach you asanas based on your medical profile.

    You could fast every ekadasi - 11th day of the moon. This fast, you could do without any food or water, if your health permits. If at all, you can have milk, curd/ yogurt and fruits.

    Get active into service mataji, automatically the weight will run away. Nice to see your resolve to put everything in the service of Krsna.

    Today is a very auspicious day. Pray to Lord Nrisimhadev. He will give you unalloyed devotion, with or without weight loss.
