vaishnava guru parampara

Hare Krishna

Danvat Prnaam ;

Many devotes believe that we don't need any guru for guru-shishya parampara; our real guru is srila prabhupada and we follows their teachings and srila prabhupada is always with us.. which is also correct.

but hows they take diksha ?  if take diksha from guru is not important then whats the need of dhiskha? if srila prabhupada teaching and srila prabhupada is always here with us..  so take shelter of guru is really very important ? or srila prabhupada teaching their books is sufficient for anyone soul to go back to home ..

Because we are not pure that we understand the level of bhakti or understand about god ; so we take shelter of guru... so please show me path and also show the light on value of take diksha....

    Hare KRsna PRabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Srila Prabhupada was also in parampara prabhu and he established parampara by forming ISKCON in his lifetime na prabhu. Why is it that we are able to put our faith in Srila Prabhupada, but not in the many disciples of Srila Prabhupada who were empowered by his divine grace, who have served under him and have proved in almost 40 years of his disappearance their alleigience and contribution to ISKCON?

Its because we are scared or apprehensive to surrender to a live guru - there is always a "What if...." in the mind. That is what one has to overcome. Only when one surrenders to a live guru does real humility come.

The teachings of Srila Prabhupada are sacrosanct and they stand. They do not conflict the live guru or his teachings in any way. After all we have to choose from one of his disciples only. Each of the current gurus have picked up one quality of Srila Prabhupada and excelled in that quality. We have to see which quality appeals to us, whether the guru inspires us, our proximity (as in whether its possible to visit/ meet this guru if required) and decide.

Taking diksha doesnt mean that one doesnt do one's sadhana. One has to of course do one's sadhana with due diligence and sincerity.

Please do ISKCON Disciple Course. It will clear a lot of the doubts you are having now.

Pls feel free to write and ask more if you have further queries.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

      Hare krsna everyone,

All glories to guru, gauranga and devotees.

Radha mataji is absolutely correct. To understand why guru is important and how Srila Prabhupada is at the forefront even after choosing a "live" guru is explained in detail. The disciple course answers many questions relating to Srila Prabhupada's role in the organisation and also relating to how to choose a guru, what qualities to look for and how to approach for initiation. Please contact your local temple to get more information on the course.

A true guru will not preach/give instructions other than what the acharyas have practiced. you need to do your homework by attending lectures of the guru you are interested to take initiation from. You will be able to see if they are talking their own version or passing information that has come through the parampara system.

If Prabhupada felt that there was no need of subsequent gurus within Iskcon, then he wouldnt have initiated his disciples. Prabhupada trusted his disciples to continue to preach and help him in his mission by bringing others into krsna consciousness. We are connected to Srila Prabhupad through his books and also DIRECTLY through the initiation succession as well.

      Chant and be happy.

      Srila Prabhupada ki jai!!!
