Vaikuntha ekadashi Is also known as Putrada Ekadashi this year and this ekadashi is generally observed as a day of Fasting Without Grains and Beans as we follow other ekadashi's.
Vaikunta Ekadasi is an important festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the Tamil month of Margazhi (December-January)(Maragasheera and Pushya ). This Festival is generally observed by Sri(Ramanuja Sampradaya),Vaikuntha Ekadasi festival is of great significance at the Tirupati Balaji Temple, Srirangam Sri Ranganatha Temple and at the Bhadrachalam Temple. In Kerala, it is known as Swarga Vathil Ekadashi,The most important festival celebrated for full twenty one days during Tamil month Margazhi (December-January) is divided to two ten days as pagal pathu and ra pathu, with all pomp and pageantry and Srivaishnavas recite Nalayira Dhivyaprabandham throughout the day and devotees keep vigil during the whole Night .It is widely believed that the gates to the heaven open - the Gate of Vaikuntha - on the Vaikunta Ekadasi day.The ‘Vaikunta Dwaram’ or ‘the gate to the heaven’ is opened on this day. This is the passage encircling the innermost sanctum of the Lord. Scores of devotees queue up to pass through the Gate of Vaikunta in the temples. And it is also associated with the Moksha Dinam(Disapearence day ) Of Nammalwar who is the incarnation of Cheiftan of Vaikunta (Viswaksena)and is the 3rd Guru in the Line (Parampara) Of Srivaishnavas which is Started By Lord SriHari Himself.
So as far as We gaudiya Vaishnavas We will follow the same rules of Fasting Without Grains and beans as usual ,Chant&Read more books which will give us knowledge to understand ourself and the Supreme,Also We go for book distribution as it is the Last day of the Holy Geetha Jayanthi month and we can follow little austerities like keeping awake in the night and offering best fruits flowers and Sri Tulasi for the Pleasure of His Lordship Sri Sri Madhava.
So this is how we generally Observe Sri vaikuntha ekadashi aka Putrada ekadashi.
Hope this might help you to resolve your Queries about Vaikuntha ekadashi
Thanks for your reply. I have a query on the Fasting? How long should i fast, is their a timing for this. Do we need not sleep on this to observe this day ?
Fasting means are you refering to Nirjala (Without Water)
If its Nirjala then its upto your capacity,if you can do it till next day morning its very good or else you can continue your fasting by taking milk and Fruits ,generally fasting is done with fruits and milk .
Speaking Practically we cannot be awake through out the night as we may go to work and the body needs rest. However if u can stay awake ,you can definately do that.
The whole idea of ekadashi is to Think of Lord and engage our mind and body in his service atleast this 1 day.
All the above mentioned austerity done must make us to "Always Remember Krsna and Never Forget Krsna ".
Hope this answer's your Question
