Hare Krsna everyone,

Please accept my humble obesiences,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada,

I wanted to ask that, I am having Srimad Bhagavad Gita by Swami Srila Prabhupada, in both, Hindi as well as English language.

I just wanted to ask that should I read the Bhagavad Gita in Hindi or in English. Some sources have told me that Sanskrit is quite different from western languages and some words of Sanskrit do not find any synonymous word in English.

Please provide some solutions in this regard as at times I get confused in this aspect.

Hare Krsna!

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Pls read whichever language you are comfortable in. Or read both and find out for yourself you are able to understand better in which. Next reading, do in that language.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    • Hare Krsna Mata Ji,

      PAMHO,

      All Glories to Srila Prabhupada,

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I have this delusion of reading Bhagavad Gita in Hindi or English, because, after reading The Bhagavad Gita As It Is (English and Hindi) cover to cover once, I think I would be able to better connect with the devotees of ISKCON if I read Srila Prabhupada's books in English. Because, most of the lectures that I listen to are mostly in English, probably because I am able to connect better with the Prabhu jis. Examples being His Holiness Radhanath Swami Maharaj, and of course, Srila Prabhupada.

But the delusion that is arising in my mind is due to 2 reasons. First is that although am fluent in English, but my mother tongue is Hindi. Hence I feel sometimes that I would understand better in Hindi. And second reason is that my mother likes to read scriptures in Hindi. And I plan that when I'll buy Srimad Bhagavatam after sometime, she would also read it, as she also wants to read it. But although she has agreed to read in English as well, she is more comfortable in reading puranas in Hindi. Hence, at times when I read Bhagavad Gita in English, it feels some sort of guilt, that, I am making the journey of my mother in KC bit difficult.

These doubts I understand are arising because of material attachments / aversions to people and language. Hence that's why I need the guidance as to what to choose here. Please guide me on this issue. Thanks.

      Haribol!

      Sameer
