Hare Krsna
I often use Google to search for information relating to increasing my knowledge and understanding in Krsna Consciousness. It has been suggested that as a devotee I should not be using it.
Suggestions and advice are welcome please.
Thank you very much

Hare Krishna Prabhu,
As far as I've heard the suggestion you have got is right. A devotee should not be looking out for "knowledge" on Google.
Reasons being:
1) It doesn't give you the knowledge, but only information. Pls remember the "knowledge" is revealed & "information" is obtained.
2) Google throws a lot more than irrelevant (many times rubbish) information you are not looking for. Unless you are fixed up with the philosophy there are chances that it may drag you down.
3) Knowledge has to be aquired by serving a vaishnava. Surrendering to the words spoken by them in the authorised scriptures. Google doesn't fall in this criteria.
Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu (1.2.234) says:
ataḥ śrī-kṛṣṇa-nāmādi na bhaved grāhyam indriyaiḥ
sevonmukhe hi jihvādau svayam eva sphuraty adaḥ
“No one can understand the transcendental nature of the name, form, quality and pastimes of Śrī Kṛṣṇa through his materially contaminated senses. Only when one becomes spiritually saturated by transcendental service to the Lord are the transcendental name, form, quality and pastimes of the Lord revealed to him.”
Ofcourse Google can be reffered to find out what is mentioed where but only when you are fixed up in Gaudiya Vaishanva Siddhanta.
Hope your query has been answered.
Yours in Srila Prabhupada's service,
