THE UNIVERSE IS EXPANDING STEADILY

In My previous discussion "The Big-Bang Theory", I come to know from the post of Sri Ashwani Kumar that our Veda also says that our universe is expanding steadily but It(Veda) does not support the BIG-BANG theory. Can any one tell where Veda says that our Universe is expanding steadily? Please mention the verses and the name of the vedic book where Sastra says that "Our Universe is expanding".

In my previous discussion "The Big-Bang Theory" Sri Ashwani Kumar has said as follows:

"The Vedic version of the universal creation is that it was created by the guidance of the Supreme Being and, indeed, has been steadily expanding. But this does not imply an unnatural Big Bang from which everything appeared."

So pls discuss on this point with appropriate vedic references

Hare Krishna Prabhuji. andavat Pranam. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Veda says the Universe has neither begining nor any end. And also Veda says there are multiple Universes, which is a common subject matter now a days in Scientist community.

Brahma-vid apnoti param, tad eshabhyukta, satyam jnanam anantam brahma (Taittiriya Upanisad. 2.1.1).

God is supreme Conscious being, now here in the above verse the supreme Conscious Brahman is described as Anantam means Infinite . Infinity is one of the attribute of Para-Brahman. Now see what Bhagavad Gita Says

BG 9.4: By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them.

Now in this verse Krishna says that everything i.e the Universe resting on Him, and Upanishads says his one attribute is he is Infinite so as an infinite being it is very natural the universe is also infinite ( we can't measure it through material calculation)   therefore an infinite thing when observed with material science its natural to perceive it as expanding.

And the reason for this expansion is also given by Lord krishna

BG 15.1: The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: It is said that there is an imperishable banyan tree that has its roots upward and its branches down and whose leaves are the Vedic hymns. One who knows this tree is the knower of the Vedas.

BG 15.2: The branches of this tree extend downward and upward, nourished by the three modes of material nature. The twigs are the objects of the senses. This tree also has roots going down, and these are bound to the fruitive actions of human society.

The above verse says that the Universe is expanding in all direction, but the expansion is based on three modes of nature ( Goodness, Passion and Ignorance) . Among them as long as passion is there it will expand. A living entity in the modes of passion always carry different conception of life, so to facilitate the environment according to one conception of life Universe can expand itself and Creates that kind of environment to suit the living entities Desire.

And the expansion can't be observed , what scientist wants to convey, they may perceiving serpent instead of rope , because material nature is illusion as Krishna says in BG

BG 15.3-4: The real form of this tree cannot be perceived in this world. No one can understand where it ends, where it begins, or where its foundation is. But with determination one must cut down this strongly rooted tree with the weapon of detachment. Thereafter, one must seek that place from which, having gone, one never returns, and there surrender to that Supreme Personality of Godhead from whom everything began and from whom everything has extended since time immemorial.

    Hope this will help

    Your aspiring Servant

Hare Krishna Prabhuji, please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I read in Bhagavatam that Spiritual world is expanding always but never read that this material world expands in size. Maybe it happens at the time of creation when all universes come out from the body of Maha Vishnu and keep the same size afterwards.

There are different sized universes. Ours is one of the smallest. With lord Brahma with 4 heads. There are 1000 headed Lord Brahmas in other universes which are bigger in the size...

    Your servant,
