Hare Krishna dandwat pranam PAMHO
Actually I am a student preparing for JEE entrance exam, actually when I was in 10th I used to feel so dedicated so excited and passionate in studies and experiencing high burning desire to perform well and I did perform very well in 10th and secured 1st rank, but as soon as I started my JEE preparation what happened to me I don't know but my dedication, passionate attitude, burning desire kind of lost. Though I am very interested in engineering field but still I am not at all getting the burning desire to do it or passionate attitude to do it.
I am doing chanting since my mid of 9th std and recently while hearing a lecture prabhuji said that desires will come and go but we shall perform it as duty by following bhakti routine and than dedication will come automatically. I started following bhakti routine (waking at bhrahma murat, attending online japa session, and at study breaks hearing to the lecturs or bhakti related content, and regular physical exercise) I tried to follow every step for almost 3 months but still I haven't experienced that 'duty attitude' or dedication, also I am still not experiencing burning desire and also not able to perform that well in academics. Also I have family pressure, expectations of good performance as my frnds are also performing well, etc. I am feeling very depressed and confused that though I am trying to follow and do good, but still experiencing no dedication no burning desire to perform excellent etc.
(I know that if I got that desire to do very good or perform very good i can do it without any excuse but lack of desire is somewhat the reason too of not able to perform that well)
- Plz plz plz guide me my last hope is to just seek guidance from devotees. Plz reply 🥺 🙏

Hare Krsna PRabhu,
PAMHO.
Very nice to read about your sincere sadhana. Very good.
Now coming to your problems -
1) Just because we are on the path of devotion does not mean that we cannot excel in our chosen field - be it acedamics or profession. Remember, Arjuna is a pure devotee and also the best archer of all times. So the lack of drive to study is something that needs to be addressed. Maybe you peaked at the wrong time. It is natural for parents, relatives, friends and peers to expect good marks from a good student. And now you are ambassador of Krsna. If your grades start dipping, immediately the blame will go to Krsna. People will say - see how becoming a Krsna devotee, he is now failing in exams. So you study thinking it is your duty to uphold the reputation of Krsna devotees.
2) Simply by doing sadhana for 3 months, the 'duty attitude' will not develop. We do not know how many lifetimes of baggage we are carrying. It can take many many years. That should not deter us from doing our duty nevertheless. We still do our studies with due diligence and still try our best to please Krsna with our sadhana.

Dear Soham Gaud
It is good that you are chanting. I suppose that you are chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.
First of all you should chant sixteen rounds of japa of Hare Krishna maha-mantra. You have simply to chant and listen to the sound vibration.
The second point is that you should not be disturbed by the pressure of your relatives. Krishna will take care of you and your relatives will also be satisfied.
Then I suggest you to not give importance about the success of your friends if they are not devotees. Material success will perish at the time of death therefore it is not at all important.
Finally you should consider the following point: do you feel attracted by the opposite sex? If you feel attracted to enjoy the opposite sex you should dovetail this attachment by marrying and begetting Krishna conscious children. This implies that you maintain yourself and your future family through a job.
Everything deprived of Krishna consciousness is unsatisfying, for this reason your determination to pursue your studies has decreased. But if you are planning to create a Krishna conscious family, if you find that you have the ability to engage in the study of your current school program, then you should continue and Krishna will sustain you.
Once you will eventually find a job remember to donate half of the money you have saved at the end of each month after taking care of the expenses of your family to the Vaisnavas.
If you do not feel the need to create a family, my suggestion is that you should take shelter of the nearest ISKCON temple and live as a brahmacari and always engage in the service of the Lord.
I look forward to hearing a feedback from you.
Your servant,
Luca Bertoni

Hello! I understand the feeling of pressure and loss of motivation while preparing for JEE—it’s a challenging yet crucial phase. You’ve done great by maintaining your bhakti routine and balancing your studies. Sometimes, 'motivation' doesn’t come immediately, but taking small, consistent steps (like using tools like grade calculator to track your progress) can help you see the path more clearly. Trust in your process!
