So our senses and our body does not belong to us - soul but to a Creator. When we try to use it for our own enjoyment we commit a sin. Stealing. Using something without paying the price.

Creator - God has given us this body so that we use it in His service. And He gave instructions and rules of how we can use it and please Him. And He knows that it is the only way that can make us- souls happy.

So to live according to shastras is called as sinless life.

There are different types of people - people in different stages of progress.

People with bharmanical qualities, with kshatriya qualities...shudra....

So for one to do something might be a sin but for another is not.

For example, a lion can kill and eat flesh - which is not a sin for him, but for a human being it is not allowed to do so. A great sin. Why? Because human being is given better intelligence.

Another example, vaishya - business man can lie in order to make profit (putting 25% more price) but for a brahmana to lie is not a proper thing. Truthfulness is one of important qualities for them.

Function of intelligence is ability to understand what is good and what is bad.

And intelligence gets guidance from Shabda Brahman - Knowledge which is coming from God.

So in order to know what is a sin and what is not one should STUDY.

All children are like animals - they do not have knowledge. But they study and become human beings.

Lord Chaitaya's father Jagannatha Mishra forbid his Son to go to school and study...once Lord Gauranga sat on dirty pots and seeing that Saci mata told Him that it is not good, that now Your body became contaminated...so Lord Chaitanya told that "if You are not allowing Me to go to school and study then how will I know what is correct and what is not?.."

So in this way we have to remove ignorance-darkness by gaining knowledge of Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam and then we will see everything in reality.

  Maan means mind. So it might service on mind to the particular Deity of the Lord.
  
  But i do not know what is that "paap".

      my humble obeisances Prabhuji,
      
      in Sattya Yuga even bad thoughts were considered as sins and people used to get reaction for each of them.
      
      But the specialty of this age Kali is that they are not considered as sin and no reaction for them. But we have to be careful and control our mind because usually comes out what is there in mind. So mind should be engaged always in remembering the Holy Names. No other way of controlling it.
      
      It is very powerful.
      
      I am practicing these days the next thing:
      
      usually when i see people i see only bad, which is so painful to heart. So within mind i avoid that bad thought and try to pray for that person. And in mind touch his or her feet and beg forgiveness. And try to think that he or she is a soul and that Paramatma is sitting behind him. And that whatever fault i am seeing is only belong to this temporary body but the soul is always wonderful - all attractive. No faults and defects in soul.
      
      And these thoughts with everyone, and helps me so much to be peaceful and avoid envy at least to some tiny extent.
