shrimad bhagavad gita 11.52

श्रीभगवान् बोले -- मेरा यह जो रूप तुमने देखा है, इसके दर्शन अत्यन्त ही दुर्लभ हैं। इस रूपको देखनेके लिये देवता भी नित्य लालायित रहते हैं।

purport by srila prabhupada -

In the forty-eighth verse of this chapter Lord Krishna concluded revealing His universal form and informed Arjuna that this form is not possible to be seen by so many pious activities, sacrifices, etc. Now here the word su-durdarsham is used, indicating that Krishna’s two-handed form is still more confidential.

i'm confused about this two commentaries because one says two-handed form and other commentary says four handed because in many instances demigods have seen four handed form like at the time of samudra manthan many demigods and asuras seen four handed form of bhagwan when lord lifting mandar mountain..also at the time of some wars like when personality of godhead killed kaalnemi..etc..also in dwapar on earth many human beings seen krishna's two handed form...so that 'sududarshanam' word is for vishwaroopa ?

  • yes prabhuji..but you understood my recent response.. i gave reply to your opinion - "Anyway ,its look like Krishna was talking here about four handed form which Arjuna have seen just moments before.Thats my opinion."
    not to prabhupada's purport.

i was just wants to say that srila prabhupada's purport on 11.52 is same as srila vishwanatha chakravarty thakur's commentary also both commentaries are pointing to two handed form and im with it,nothing else. i was confused about 11.52 that krishna was saying about his two handed form or four handed??but after seeing srila vishwanatha chakravarty thakur's commentary i understood the actual meaning. Hare Krishna!!

    • *you 'misunderstood' my recent response.

      sorry writing mistake.

      • Yes , its well known that Srila Prabhupada was generally following Srila Cakravarti Thakur.

  • maybe but dean prabhuji please see srila vishwanatha chakravarty thakur's commentary on 11.52.
    • Sorry prabhuji, im not qualified to comment on commentaries of great vaisnavas.

    śrī-bhagavān uvāca
    su-durdarśam idaṁ rūpaṁ
    dṛṣṭavān asi yan mama
    devā apy asya rūpasya
    nityaṁ darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ
    Word for word:
śrī-bhagavān uvāca — the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; su-durdarśam — very difficult to see; idam — this; rūpam — form; dṛṣṭavān asi — as you have seen; yat — which; mama — of Mine; devāḥ — the demigods;api — also; asya — this; rūpasya — form; nityam — eternally; darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ — aspiring to see.
    Translation:
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, this form of Mine you are now seeing is very difficult to behold. Even the demigods are ever seeking the opportunity to see this form, which is so dear.
    .
In this sloka the word dristavan asi means as you have seen, but its translated -as you seeing now.
Anyway ,its look like Krishna was talking here about four handed form which Arjuna have  seen just moments before.
    Thats my opinion.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

If all the commentaries said the same thing, then why would Srila Prabhupada have to burn the midnight oil to write another one and then struggle to get it published?

You have to choose one path, one guru and start to follow him prabhu. You decide which path appeals to you, whihc guru appeals to you. Like this, you are simply looking at the pebbles on the sea shore, you are not attempting to dive deep into the sea to get the pearls waiting to be picked up.

We do not face these confusions - because we do not read anything apart from Srila Prahupada. If we read all he has written and understand and imbibe, that is enough for all lifetimes.

    This is my limited understanding.

    Haribol,

    YOur servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

    • yes you are right mataji. thank you.

      hare krishna !!
