Hare Krishna,

few days back i came across some devotees of lord Shiva. They put forward a theory that Shiva and shankar are different. Shiva is the jyotirlinga and Shankar is the husband of Parvati. Shiva the linga is the cause of all causes.He is the supreme soul.

unfortnately they could not give any sastric reference but they mentioned that is mentioned in Linga puran or Shiva puran. They also gave reference to the famous incident of Lord Vishnu and Brahma dev could not trace the end of linga.

Can anyone throw some light on this topic ?
