I always had and have doubt, when carved deities are so beautiful then why self manisfested deities
are not so beautiful? Forgive me if I offend anyone.

I heard one secret from the lecture of HH Indradyumna Swami. But what to do we are telling it.
He told that when he visited Lord Shri Rangannatha in Shri Rangam one of the priests told to him a story. He told that in the reality Lord's body is made of some diamond - or some other very unique jewel. But it is covered with small small shaligram silas in order to protect Him.
So in the reality Lord Shir Rangannatha's form is not blackish but some other. But only shaligram silas cover His body.
In the reality Lord is beautiful in self manifested forms but only pure Devotee will be able to see that.
Again even when that Deity vala carves the particular Deity Lord Himself directs his actions. In the reality He is in that selected marble already. As like it was with Lord Shri Madhav in Mayapur Dham.
While carving that Deity the Deity vala saw the brahmanical rope around His body. So Lord comes in anyways Himself.
