Lets not speculate on this. Based on our intensity of devotion our previous life sinful reactions are nullified by Krishna.
Every karma has its cycle for fructifying into a reaction - like different varieties of seeds take different time to sprout. Therefore, good and bad karma, both have a reaction cycle. We are not in a position to understand whether our present situation is because of reaction of karma of this birth or of an earlier birth.
Once one question was asked - why is it that good people are always suffering in this material world and bad people always seem to be enjoying. One of the answers is - suppose two children are playing and end up fighting. When the parents of one child arrive, they want to know the whole episode and try to find out the fault of their ward, because they want their child to be blemishless. Even if the other child is also to blame, they point out and correct the faults of their own child, in an effort to improve him. Our situation is like that - when we take to the path of bhakti, we become very dear to the lord. Therefore, He goes through all our previous lives and if there is a slight fault also, He makes us undergo the reaction to that, so that our dependence on Him increases and we become completely surrendered, worthy of Him. On the other hand, for a karmi,He puts him in maya by letting the process of karma take over, his accumulated good karmas give result to bind him more to this material world. Unless devotee feels from personal experience that this material world is full of miseries, his faith on the lord will not be firm.
It is the lord's mercy that we have miseries, still we are not able to give up our attraction for this material world. Imagine, if we were actually having a good time in the material world, would we ever bother with wanting to leave it for the spiritual world, forget developing love for Godhead.
Prabhu, I can only say that karma kanda is complicated. Prabhupada has said that if we were to understand which of our karma is giving us a particular joy or sorrow, Krsna would give us the machinery to understand that. He only wants us to understand the principle and put our faith in Him, therefore that is the extent of knowledge He has made available to us in this lifetime. Therefore, we should simply chant Hare Krsna mahamantra and be happy.
In this life also we can get. It depends. If one has full set of karma recordings then whatever action we will do the reaction will stand in line after those previous karma reactions.
We lived for many life times, so we have very huge karma reactions. Who knows might be in this life time we are getting the reactions of our past 40's life not yet directly from previous life?
Someone may say karmi people are doing so many sins but still are not suffering; they have wealth, beauty...but when is a Devotee if he or she commits a small sin reaction will be immediate. Why?
Because it means Devotee by chanting the Holy Names washed away all karmic reactions. There is nothing in line. So when he or she does something sinful or pious then reaction will come very fast.
But karmis who are having huge karmic bank balance still getting results of their good deeds from many many life times back.
But Devotees do good acts not for material gain but for spiritual gain. Because of that it may seem that Devotees even if they perform great austerities are not getting material things. It is because their intention is not so but TO GET SPIRITUAL RESULT - WHICH IS LOVE FOR KRISHNA.
