I was having conversation with a good person recently. He is kind and nice, but he keeps telling me that if you cannot find vegetarian food, there is no harm in eating non-veg. He argued patiently with me and put me on spot by showing purport in Geeta chapter 2 verse 31 by Prabhupad that Brahmins can offer animal sacrifice.

For example, in Mahabharata we find how King Pandu and his wife Madri Mata were royally cremated. It means when Kings die their bodies are decorated and after procession they are given to the fire. Then to the Ganges.
But with simple people decoration part is not so important.

Yes, Siddhartha Prabhu is right according that animals which were sacrificed used to get human bodies. If that time priests done mistake then animal would not get human body and it would be a big sin to the yagyaman.
These sacrifices are done just to practice and to know the power of Vedic Mantras. as like experiment of Mantras. As like nowadays such like experiments are done on poor animals like mouses, rabbits...
They used those mantras in Medicine, in building contractions...as like we now use drugs from different diseases.
