our next birth depends on our activities which we are doing in this present life

 During the birth of brahma, saptarishis, daksha, swayambuva manu, who are the fore fathers of living entities all over the universe. What were ttheir previous births, if they didnt have previous life, then this process of birth cycle takenplace.

   when 84 lakhs living creatures were manifested. where they were first born,

    For example in next Manvantara Bali Maharaja - grand son of Prahlada Maharaja will be a Manu. 

    So if those sages are now sages it means they are carrying their karma from previous Manvantaras; Yugas...

    After the destruction of material planets living entities enter into the body of Lord Vishnu and their karma - subtle body also remains there.

    Birth and rebirth are needed ideas to explain continuity of darkness and light when both seem as opposites just as night follows day, death bardo and rebirth follow each other. But truly neither dearh nor birth but momentarily forgetfulness needed in order to make the story make sense. From a night to the next from a dream to the other the Watcher sits calmly on the recoiled serpent within the cosmic ocean
