It says that if we circulate someone we show to that person our respect.
i also remember from my childhood when my mom was happy with us used to say "Janymdan aylanayyn" - "let me circulate my dear one" or something like that in English.
And when we show our respect to great souls, Holy Places we get their attention with which comes their blessing and prayers.
in this way it is very essential in our spiritual life.
Also i heard in lecture we have to do parikrama not 3 times but 4.

i heard this lecture 3-4 years back and really do not remember why we should do it 4 times. But HH Bhakti Vigyana Maharaj told that it should be minimum 4.
If i find that lecture again then will give correct answer. Or Devotees here might help us.
