Putrada ekadasi

hare krishna to all devotees....

i would like to ask why putrada ekadasi favours fasting for son which is purely materialistic desire and wish and this is indirectly  differentiates between girl and boy while both are same for Krishna and children of Krishna.......

then why is it???

pls forgive for any offence.....

    Please accept my humble obeisances. All  glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Guru-deva.

    Dear Nimmi, it is recommended to fast for a son. the sanskriet word for son is putra. Pu is the name of one of the hellish planets. Tra means free. So, putra means to free one from the hellish planets. A son is the perfect one who can free his parents from hel. So, for this, all the karmi families should have at least one son. The karmi-family without a son , ask for a son as reward for fasting on putrada ekadasi.

    The devotee of Lord Krishna ask also for a son, but not that son witch is ask by the karmi's.  Because the serious devotee know that Krishna becomes their son, father and mother.

    Canakya Pandita said: satyam mata pita jnanam/ dharmo bhrata daya sakha/ santih patni ksama putrah/ sadete mama vandhavan. Means, the truth is my mother, knowledge is my father, duty is my brother, mercy is my friend, peace is my wife, forgivenes is my son. These six are my family members.

    From the 26 leading good kwalities for the devotee of Lord Krishna is forgivenes the highest. That is way devotees are doing their best to developing this kwality.

    So, fasting on putrada ekadasi the serious devotees ask for a son that represent forgivenes. Thay don't ask for a real son.

    Its not a distinction at the level that you see. Its basically for a child. Irrespective of daughter or son .

     

    Also noteworthy is the fact that its a fact that a son = putra = one who liberates his dynasty from the hell which also means pu . That is why putrada ekadashi
