Even Sri Krishna and His brother Rama were playing chess, but usually for something. That's called the gambling, which were common challenge for warriors or ksatriyas in ancient time.
Ordinary chess player have to pay entry fee to enter chess tournament and win the bigger money prize, that's gambling. Also someone else can pay for you to play in the chess tournament, then you don't have to lose anything, but then still you cant play for fun, because those who finance you expect you to win.
You can gamble in your name or in the name of your club or country, but principle is the same. That's with every professional sport nowadays, where money, interest and material glory are the the goals,
Playing for fun, where money is not involved is something else.
Prabhu but that happens with each and every profession...that is the main principle of earning artha...to speak a a lie and make profit...so what should we do in today's time....krsna says that one should not give up the work born of his nature even if such work is full of faults....can this principle be applied here....and also please tell the definition of prescribed duties for today's society as there is no varnashram??

My dear King, with my intelligence I have taken shelter of many spiritual masters. Having gained transcendental understanding from them, I now wander about the earth in a liberated condition. Please listen as I describe them to you.
