position of women

what is the position of a single working women, supporting her family, in vaishnavism. she can't live the life of a subordinate and dependent on the men in the society if she has to fend for herself and her family, as is expected according to most of the texts.

Yes Mataji, Vishal Prabhu is thinking with his heart and we have been thinking with our mind trying to come up with a time when Prabhupada did agree for widow remarriage.

Vishal Prabhu is right. Krishna will speak to you in many ways. Always think of Him and take His Name, think and listen to His Pastimes.

Many western devotees came to Mayapur, and later some husbands took Sanyas and Prabhupada has not advised women left by husbands to remarry. They just also stayed in the temple along with their children, serving the Lord

  • thank you prabhu ji for supporting my views.  most of the times society and relatives , who believe that a woman should always be dependent on a man, pressurise such females to get married - may be they are really concerned about her welfare or they want to get rid of the responsibility of supporting her without feeling guilty about it.
  • Jai Shri Krishna..

I fully agree..and grassy knoll LOL

It is best for a society when women are dependent on men.

As a young girl, prior to marriage should depend on the father.

Once married depend on the husband and when old depend on the son.

This is our vadic culture. You must get married and let your husband support you and your kids. A woman must be treated with respect and like a queen.

The talk in the west of woman's freedom is not real. Women in the western society are cheated by telling them that you are equal and you too can wear pants and go to work like me. (of course kids go to dogs)

A man should never be in a subordinate position to woman. He should always make the decisions of whats best for the family. A hen peck will not have any respect in the society.

Women are also less intelligent, meaning they dont see the need to achieve liberation as much as men. Women tend to think more about this life. Not all though. Men can also be less intelligent. In fact any man receiving a paycheck (shudra) is also considered less intelligent, so are fallen Brahmin.

Women when left out by society without control can cause ruin of the society as a whole because, if you see the west, every year over a million babies are born out of wedlock.

If women are equal why do they need govenment to play the roll of father to support the child?

    • Hare Krishna Shravan,

Obvioustly you are an Indian male - with the typical Indian male ego.  Where did you get from our Shastra that:    "A man should never be in a subordinate position to woman. He should always make the decisions of whats best for the family."  ??  - or is that simply your hard wired opinion stemming from being brought up in a sexist culture.   Maybe the "man" doesn't always know whats best for the family.  Get with the times Shravan - it's 50% / 50%.  Any decisions you want to make you should consult your wife first (and vice versa).  As far as your opinion on Western culture goes,  Western culture/ society looks after women (and their children) when men are abusive/ neglectful.  However, I need not spell out how badly women are treated in India, some even being discarded at birth because they are born female.  So when you talk of Western women being "cheated", this is simply rubbish.  Western culture is a threat to many men in certain cultures,  because it forces you to behave yourself. It tears down the illusion that you are an "all mighty male" and that in actual fact, you are not always right - too hard for you to swallow huh?  I live in a "Western" culture, and I have met 2 or 3 Indian women who are very greatfull to be living in a society that protects and helps women,  as it has empowered them to leave abusive situations.  One women told me she suffered abuse and was miserable for 10 years (with her Indian husband).  Just ask these women if they feel "cheated" by our culture.

On your note about women "without control can cause ruin..."    Just look at the state of the world.  For the most part it's been men running it for the past centuries.  Dalai Lama predicted that it would be Western women who could save the world.

And on your note of babies in the West being born out of wedlock,  just research what happens to thousands of baby girls in India when they are born.  Far far worse than being born out of wedlock.   Leonardo Da Vinchi was born out of wed lock but he went on to be one of the worlds greatest artist - so get some perspective.  Would you rather be born out of wedlock, or poisoned and thrown in a gutter left to die when you were born.

Bottom line, both men and women should be subordinate to EACH OTHER.  Vedic culture is based on the principle of subordination. Everyone lovingly subordinates themselves to Krishna, to guru, to Krishna's devotees, and even to the non-devotees by giving them Krishna.

Watch what you say, think and do Shravan  .. you may just end up with a egomaniac, control freak husband in your next life and be wondering, 'what did I do to deserve such bad karma?".   It doesn't feel good to be suppressed.
