Patanjali mentioned in Bhagavatam

Hare Krishna Devotees. PAMHO. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

http://vedabase.net/sb/6/15/12-15/en mentions the name of patanjali as one of the Rishi along with Asita, Devala, Vyasa and etc were present during the era before Bhagavatam was written But as far my knowledge goes I read that patanjali was a later Rishi and his presence was there around 2nd century BC. So this thing is creating confusion. If anybody has any concrete info on this plz share.

  • Hari Bol Sudipta Roy ,

yes, Muni Patanjali was there before 5000 yrs ago . That 2nd century BC is a nonsense info .

Also , I would like to tell you -
I used to be a dhyan yogi (ashtaan-yog) . I was a person mad after Baba Ramdev (Yog guru) . So its obvious that I had a deep respect for Muni Patanjali . I have read two translations of Yog Shutra - one by Gita Press and another by Baba Ramdev . The later is better .

But if you have read Vedanta Sutra then you will come to know that Patanjali and his Yog Shutra is declared a Naastik by Maharshi Ved Vyas ! Also , you cannot find even K of Krishna ( The Supreme Personality of Godhead) in the Yog Shutras .

Patanjali is not a maharshi but a Muni . But honestly saying , as soon as I recieved Krsna's mercy and read Sril Prabhupada's books, I just threw away this Patanjali and his Astaang Yog as a crap . Also I have quited pranayam and aashans forever . The Bhagavad Gita Gitaamrit by Baba Ramdev is also a bogus translation in front of Bhagavad Gita As It Is .

I reccomand you to read these 2 books by His Devine Grace -

PERFECTION OF YOG , and ,

KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS : THE TOPMOST YOG SYSTEM

    Thank You Very Much ,
    Hare Krishna !

Oh I got a great Info

"oral tradition accounts for the apparent time differences by explaining that the name Patanjali is a surname, and is the name of a lineage and school of teachers, students, and sages, rather than being only one person. However, for convenience sake, Patanjali is spoken of as a single person, who might have been founder of the lineage. Although Patanjali is a surname of the lineage, there have also been several individuals with the name Patanjali, which may or may not have been related with the lineage relating to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali."

    It cleared my doubt
