Om praanaaya swaahaa ... why do we say this shloka

My parents have taught me that whenever I offer food to our deities we chant the following sloka:

"OM praanaaya swaahaa,
 OM apaanaaya swaahaa,
 OM vyaanaaya swaahaa,
 OM udaanaaya swaahaa,
 OM samaanaaya swaahaa"

I have recently read that those 5, namely praanayaaya, apaanaaya, vyaanaaya, udaanaaya, and samaanaaya are i believe the 5 types of winds that resides within us (i think?)

so why do we chant this?
