Helpless old, women and kids should be served first when food is subject. Thats rule should practiced everywhere, as it was practiced in a vedic civilization.

On another side, in the puja ritual of offering the deities fire, water, flower, incense , and then returning blessed to vaishnavas , the first on the line to recieve is the Guru of the person who make such puja. The second is the man and third are women and kids.

The question why not women first or second, its because of this :

SB 10.29.24 — The highest religious duty for a woman is to sincerely serve her husband, behave well toward her husband’s family and take good care of her children.

-Therefore, in the public temples , as well as the puja made for home deities, the practice should be the same, because servant cant be in front of a master when spiritual purification is a subject.

-Patriarchal vedic social system is scientifically made, but modern women who are not religiously educated usually search for their independence. Such independence brings inside suffering to women and destruction of human society in many ways.

-Pure devotee dont need to follow such dharma, but usually follow to show example to others. Otherwise people in general will stop following religious principles degrading themselfs.
