Myth that Krishna does not fulfill material desires.

There is a myth that Krishna does not fulfill material desires. It is clearly stated in Srimad Bhagavatam that even if one has material desires he should approach Krishna. However after getting his material desires fulfilled one ends up getting pure devotion.

  • One day I realized that playing a lot of casinos is bad. Thank you Krishna for this.

  • The most humbling experience when I lost all my money for playing in the casino. I thought Krishna would give me luck. Now I know.
  • Sri Prahlada said :

SB 7.10.4Otherwise, O my Lord, O supreme instructor of the entire world, You are so kind to Your devotee that You could not induce him to do something unbeneficial for him. On the other hand, one who desires some material benefit in exchange for devotional service cannot be Your pure devotee. Indeed, he is no better than a merchant who wants profit in exchange for service.

I tried to present pure bhakti which is rare nowadays even to imagine, what to talk about following.
Anyway, The Lord is for sure best person for giving all benedictions to everyone.
Even candalas, shudras, demons, rakshasas, animals, ghosts , can adore Him for their materialistic desires,
and Lord for sure wont discriminate any of them.
Pure bhakti is light years above all that.
  • you are right Mihir!! there are several others like Sudama, pralhad, bali, maharaja ambarisa, bharat maharaj, even that fruit seller woman, then there was another aged woman with haunched back selling perfumes. Krishna made her young again. so Krishna does fulfill material desires no doubt
  • Only pure devotees of Lord can be free from dusturbing, even if they are materially rich. All others will for sure be disturbed and even degrade from their spiritual progress.

Therefore, Lord will personally give material opulence only to those who already achieved intensive and deep prema or love for Him.

NBS 54Pure love of God manifests as the most subtle consciousness, devoid of material qualities and material desires, increasing at every moment, and never interrupted.
    .
NBS 55Having obtained pure love of God, one looks only at the Lord, hears only about Him, speaks only of Him, and thinks only of Him.
    .

Anyway, we can see that nowadays some vaishnavas economically progressing. We should know thats not product of their service to God, but rather the product of their karma from previous lives.

The Lord is not like demigods in giving material blessings.

He is pleased with vaisnava who  unconditionaly serve or love Him, without expecting anything in return.

    • SB 11.14.13 — One who does not desire anything within this world, who has achieved peace by controlling his senses, whose consciousness is equal in all conditions and whose mind is completely satisfied in Me finds only happiness wherever he goes.

  • Yes , but after Sri Dhruva waked up bhakti and meet the Lord  he lost all such desires.

Have a look what he said :

SB 4.9.9Persons who worship You simply for the sense gratification of this bag of skin are certainly influenced by Your illusory energy. In spite of having You, who are like a desire tree and are the cause of liberation from birth and death, foolish persons, such as me, desire benedictions from You for sense gratification, which is available even for those who live in hellish conditions.

    • It is really very difficult to accept that Krishna fulfills material needs . Exceptions cannot be taken as example . In case of Dhruva maharaj it was Lord Vishnu . I understand there is no difference between them but Golokapati krishna deals with his devotees in a different way .

We enjoy and suffer due to our Karma and krishna does not deal with our Karma directly . He is specialized in Rasa department which is the highest .

I am sorry if my next statement is going to offend anyone .

I know a lot of grihastha devotees who became material losers after taking shelter of Krishna . It includes the financial crisis. I am hopeful some day they will be materially blessed but don't know when that day will come.

I know a devotee who became prosperous after taking shelter of Krishna.  I am not sure if it was his karma or the special mercy . But one thing is common Krishna will give suffering as his special mercy for purification . Whoever can take it stick to him others take shelter of demigods .

Krishna consciousness is the life of renunciation . That is why sometimes life of some grihasthas who have to take responsibility of so many things becomes miserable.

Krishna is prompt in fulfilling our spiritual desires only .

One can certainly approach Krishna for material needs but the fulfillment of that need is not guaranteed. It is a per his wish or our stored  Karma . I understand many will not agree with my post but it is based on my observation , association , counselling and experience.

The biggest trick of Krishna as Dean Prabhu mentioned , when one become actually advanced he does not ask for material benefit even if he is suffering a lot . The scriptures and potency of holy Name does a good  brainwash  :-) . So ultimately the suffering remains but he is not affected or even if he is affected then he does not ask for relief from suffering .

      • When vaishnava tastes higher taste of nectar, all other lower tastes become tasteless.

Anyway, when Lord is pleased, all material or spiritual desires become fulfilled, but Lord will think twice  before He give, considering the higher purpose known only to Him.

Why asking Lord one temporary drop of water which evaporate quickly, instead of asking eternal river of nectar. Even ones who drinks from that river, soon becomes immortal and never again become thirsty .

  • SB 10.88.8The Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna said: If I especially favor someone, I gradually deprive him of his wealth. Then the relatives and friends of such a poverty-stricken man abandon him. In this way he suffers one distress after another.
    .
SB 10.88.9When he becomes frustrated in his attempts to make money and instead befriends My devotees, I bestow My special mercy upon him.
    .
SB 10.88.10A person who has thus become sober fully realizes the Absolute as the highest truth, the most subtle and perfect manifestation of spirit, the transcendental existence without end. In this way realizing that the Supreme Truth is the foundation of his own existence, he is freed from the cycle of material life.

    .
Vaishnavas are usually pure and demigods worshipers are usually wealthy, thats because the Lord always thinks whats the best for the ultimate welfare of His devotees.
If someone has material desires and adore dear Lord, after tasting the nectar of bhakti he will lose all such desires.
