    Hare Krsna,

Bhaktin Maral has nicely explained that there are different kinds of sages, mystics which Holiness Srila Radhanatha Swami Maharaja meet Himself in the Himalaya Mountains. His divine grace, A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, has given explanations on the different types of mystic powers in several books, but especially in the Srimad Bhagavatam.

The quotes below should help understand better what these types of powers are and what is recommended regarding their importance.

From the Srimad Bhagavatam 2nd Canto:

"The topmost planetary systems consist of planets like Brahmaloka and Dhruvaloka (the polestar), and all of them

are situated beyond Maharloka. The inhabitants of those planets are empowered with eightfold achievements of mystic perfection. They do not have to learn and practice the mystic processes of yoga perfection and achieve the power of becoming small like a particle (anima-siddhi), or lighter than a soft feather (laghima-siddhi). They do not have to get

anything and everything from anywhere and everywhere (prapti-siddhi), to become heavier than the heaviest (mahima-siddhi), to act freely even to create something wonderful or to annihilate anything at will (isitvasiddhi),

to control all material elements (vasitva-siddhi), to possess such power as will never be frustrated in any desire (prakamya-siddhi), or to assume any shape or form one may even whimsically desire (kamavasayita-siddhi)."

From the Srimad Bhagavatam 1st Canto:

"Any popular personality with a few traits of mystic powers will display some feat of jugglery and easily become an

incarnation of Godhead by popular vote."

"There are many yogesvaras having different proficiencies in these wonderful powers, and the topmost of all of them is Lord Siva. Lord Siva is the greatest yogi, and he can perform such wonderful things, far beyond the ordinary living beings."

"A pure devotee is more interested in serving the Lord than in showing an exhibition of the mystic powers dormant in him."

"As long as there is the desire to enjoy sensually or to become one with the Supreme or to possess the mystic powers, there is no question of attaining the stage of pure devotional service."

"Pure devotional service must be freed from all desires for sense gratification, fruitive aspirations and culture of monistic knowledge. One must be freed from all kinds of designations, and when one is thus

converted to transcendental purity, one can then serve the Lord by purified senses."

"Those who are after fruitive results for their pious activities, those who desire salvation and identity with the Supreme, and those who desire material perfections of mystic power are all restless because they want

something for themselves, but the devotee is completely peaceful because he has no demand for himself and is always ready to serve the desire of the Lord."

Hare Krishna Siddhartha Prabhu, please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Once Srila Prabhupada was asked a question, that we see so many mystics that can fly or to do different things can He- Srila Prabhupada do something.

Prabhupada told that yes I can do. For example, these "Hippies" became "Happies". They used to drink, have drugs, illicit sex but by chanting the Holy Names they now accepted pure life style. From iron they became golden.

So it is real mysticism. Mysticism which has meaning.

Mystic powers and Liberation are the two sons of Bhakti. When we do Bhakti yoga all other two will come automatically.

Great personalities have mystic powers but they do not use it for their own sense gratification or for gaining name.

Even if they have they hide it.

    ------------------

You can read Bhagavad Gita. in the beginning Lord Krishna gives rules and regulations for gaining mystic powers. Also You can read Journey Home book where His Holiness Srila Radhanatha Swami Maharaja talks about all different kinds of sages, mystics which He meet Himself in the Himalaya Mountains.

    Your servant,
