My shikha always unties itself

Hare Krishna, dear devotees.

It might sound funny, but I have a problem: i watched a lot of videos, but whatever I do, my hair just isn't holding a knot, and unties itself, in half an hour at most. Untied length is 20-30cm.

Is anyone faced the same issue, maybe there's some lifehack?

I use rubber for hair, but it makes me look more like some kind of hipster than a devotee...

  • Hare Krishna,

This is a common issue, and it's frustrating when you've put in the effort to tie your shikha only for it to come undone. The key, as others have mentioned, is the knot.

The best method is to use a strong thread and tie a very tight, simple knot right at the base. You can also try twisting the hair in a different direction before tying the knot. Some devotees also use a drop of coconut oil on the hair to make it a bit more manageable. Hopefully, one of these tips helps you find a solution that works!

  • Hare Krishna,

The purpose of Shika as per my knowledge is.. to follow the 4 regulative principles told by the guru perfectly and to tie it as  knot to remind you of the regulative principles.

If  one practices perfectly 4 rules and has knot tied at the back of his head Chatianaya Mahaprabhu will be pleased and Nitaai who is the head of all gurus' will pull you out of samasara maya loka by holding your Shika and pulling you up to Goloka.

Check whether you are doing your 4 regulative principles regularly.

If you are doing and yet this is loosening itself

    hack:-

Maybe you might need to grow you hair a little long.

Or you might want to tie a black tread  to the ends of the middle part of hair..twist the rest of the hair to hide the thread...( if you have a black hair..) If you have grey hair try using grey color thread or use the color that suits your hair color to blend

twist the hair and then make a knot.

meanwhile grow your hair a bit. night time you might want to apply coconut oil or alamond oil and wash off every day in the morning.

    Hare Krishna
