PAMHO.
My parents are also alive, and i fast on all ekadasis. This is an endeavour to please Krsna and beyond body limits. It has nothing to do with age or status of parents.
What normally happens in our community is when there is a death inthe family, family members commit to certain number of ekadasis for the departed soul. When you fast at that time, the fruits of your fasting will be given to the departed soul. That doesnt stop us from fasting in normal situations also.
