Meditation ?

In Satyug the process for God realization is meditation where as in Kaliyug the process for God realization is chanting the Holy names of Krishna. Can someone please explain the process of meditation in detail please ? I know mayavadis meditate on the void to merge into brahmajyoti but how to use meditation to realize the Bhagavan aspect of Krishna ?

  • Hare Krishna.Pranam......Real meditation is explained by Krishna in Chapter 6 in Gita under the title Dhyana Yoga...Krishna explains how to meditate and who are the people who are eligible to meditate.....In Kali Yuga, it is impossible to do meditation.Srila Prabhupad confirms this very clearly.Even if we want to sit down and focus on the form of Krishna, how long will we do it? So, meditation in Kali yuga is not practical even if you focus on the Bhagavan form of Krishna. However, meditation should not be watered down just to sitting straight with your eyes focusing on the tip of your nose or something like that.

Meditating is actually getting absorbed in a particular thought. If I am here in Malaysia, and I think about Sridham Mayapur....everything there....Ganga, the temples, the devotees...then, i am meditating.....that is why the chanting of the holy names of the Lord is also called meditation...japa meditation...it helps you to remember Krishna.....

Unless one meditates like how it is recommended by Krishna in Gita, then it is not a genuine meditation...Krishna did not even recommend this to Arjun, what to speak of us.....Apart from that, all the sastras, sadhus and gurus recommends only japa meditation or chanting of the holy names of the lord as the real process of bhakti yoga... it is much more better and elevated than any other meditations.....

Anyway, that was a nice question of yours......JAI JAGANNATH

Hare Krishna Prabhu, please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

    Very nice question.

In Satya Yuga people lived very long as we heard and read. So for doing nice meditation one needs time. In order to perfect oneself in meditation one needs to live very very long life. It is not so easy to see Lord's form so they used to practice it by hearing the descriptions of Lord's Form and then try again and again concentrate mind on His Form.

In Satya Yuga there was no need to work because people were all pious brahmanas and nature used to give everything, no cold, no heat. Pure foods, cow milk...so peoples' minds were peaceful.

But in Kali yuga it is not so.

In order to meditate one should have very strong mind. Which means one should be in the mode of goodness. Why?

Because when false ego became in contact with the mode of goodness appeared mind, when false ego became in contact with the mode of passion appeared intelligence and when it came in contact with the mode of ignorance appeared ability to hear - sound. So because we are mostly in the mode of ignorance we have to hear -SOUND to reach the false ego and remove that.

    ---

But anyways, Krishna says if one worships Me with love and devotion I will give Him intelligence to be able to understand Me. So for practicing Devotees in this age meditation is available in the form of Deity worship as Zola Prabhu told.

So to think of which food to offer to the Deity, to think of which color cloth to make for a Deity is called as meditation.

    Your servant,
