It is very auspicious to do mangalarati. It gives a lot of spiritual strength.
Ideally, one should set the time of mangalarati in the house, and try to stick to it, with variation upto 15 minutes. It is to be done before sunrise, ideally 1.5 hrs before sunrise. If you are not able to manage that early, then atleast before sunrise.
You have to make the arati plate ready. Then, wake up the deities, put the crown, flute or anything else to make them ready. Blow conch signifying the start of mangalarati and the waking of the deities. The sequence of arati is:
1) 3 or 5 incense sticks.
2) Camphor/ Kapoor.
3) 5 wicks ghee lamp.
4) Water in conch.
5) Cloth
6) Flowers
7) Whisk/ Chamar
8) Peacock feather fan
9) Atma nivedana - with folded hands, the pujari prays to the lord to accept the offerings and forgive mistakes.
After this, the pranams have to be offered.
Next is Nrisimha arati.
Next is Tulsi arati.
Next is Shikshashtakam.
Next is 10 offences to holy names.
This is the ideal. Please do as much is do able for you. Whatever you do, be consistent.
