Man-eaters better than Animal-eaters?

Hare KRISHNA! i am perplexed. this is from the 5th canto of SB.

For the maintenance of their bodies and the satisfaction of their tongues, cruel persons cook poor animals and birds alive. Such persons are condemned even by man-eaters. In their next lives they are carried by the Yamadūtas to the hell known as Kumbhīpāka, where they are cooked in boiling oil.

you are right prabhu. We can learn by making inquiries. Krishna also says that in BG that one can know from the bonafide spiritual master the truth about supreme personality of Godhead by serving him and making submissive inquire. There is nothing wrong in that. Recently I was hearing one lecture where the speaker quoted one incident with SP. Once SP was answering the questions of people and suddenly one fellow asked. Swamiji I have heard that Dwaraka had 16,000 palaces during the period of Krishna ruling it. So how was the sanitary system maintained there during that time??? Srila Prabhupada said what kind of question is this? Its an absurd question. Next question....!!!

So the speaker was clarifying that SP always condemned 2 things -- blind following and absurd inquire. We should ask what is very much needed for our KC to improve. Now tel me frankly, if the answer to your question is that its not a figure of speech but its really a fact that a man eater is better than an animal eater, would you start eating humans???? Please forgive me for being so heavy but its the need of the hour. I really don't think so. In the scriptures it is described that Krishna's eyes are like lotus petals. So we can start questioning then is his eyes pink in color like a lotus??? does it have wrinkles on his eyes like the lotus petal has??? and hundred such questions can be asked. But what we must first of all think is how is this really going to help me in improving my KC?

Any ways I strongly believe that its is a figure of speech. However, I shall check with some of my seniors and get back to you.

Once again forgive me if I have offended you in any way.

    Hare Krishna.

There are many thing that appear in scripture which we either don't understand or have difficulty in believing it. In any case, we have to have faith in the scriptures that has come in parampara. Recently I was hearing a lecture and I was shocked to know that doubting something that is mentioned in scriptures is one of the 10 offenses of chanting the holy names of Krishna. This corresponds to the offense of blaspheming the vedic literature or literature in pursuance of vedic version. So just be careful prabhu about it.

There are many things mentioned like this which is difficult for us to understand. Ajamilla was living with a prostitute and he left his wife and parents to live with her. But latter on he became a devotee and went back to god head. Mrigari was a hunter who was half killing animals and was deriving pleasure from that and when he came in touch with Narada muni he became a saintly person. Valmiki was a dacoit who would rob people and kill them and latter became a saint and wrote Ramayan. We have seen none of these nor have seen any one who has witnessed. That does not mean we can not believe these incidents. When scriptures are telling something then it has to be truth. Scriptures are considered like our Mother. How can a mother tel a lie to her child? And Guru is considered to be our father. Father is repeating the words of Mother in order to confirm the truth. We should have no doubt about it.

    Please forgive me if offended.

Please do not bring in wrong conclusion from reading the scriptures. Please read this once again. No where it says that you can eat humans instead of animals. All it says is that even a man eater would condemn killing of other animals to eat their flesh to satisfy ones belly. Its only a figure of speech, a comparison to make us understand better.

Hare Krishna Prabhuji.Dandavat Pranam. All glories To Srila Prabhupada

Actually there are few things in scriptures if we interpret literally then somethimes we may misunderstand it. Here the comparison is made to convey the moral that Killing innocent animals to gratify our belly is most abominable. This is the message we should take from this verse.
