MAHABHARATHA AND SRIMAD BHAGAVATHAM

HARE KRISHNA TO ALL,

According to mahabharatha king parikshit built a tower & died due to snake bite in the top floor. But srimad bhagavatam says king parikshit died due to snake bite in the forest after listening to Bhagavatham from Sage Suka.
which of these is correct

  • Hare Krsna, dear devotees.

Gopiparanadhana Prabhu says in his commentaries on the Tattva Sandarbha (by Jiva Gosvami) text 21 that it is necessary to explain the Pariksit of the Mahäbhärata as a different person than the Pariksit of the Bhagavatam but who had the same name in a previous day of Brahmä. So the story in the Mahabharata should be from the previous day of Brahma.

Many of the differences between the versions of the same lilas but in different Puranas or Itihasas are to be explained in this way, not necessarily as fake ones. Of course, the Bhagavatam's version remains the most relevant one for us.

Regarding the fakeness of MHB, one needs to be careful in exclaiming it. One cannot see into the past to know what exactly was happening with the texts, so the safest way is to accept the explanations by the acaryas, whose intellect is pure, transparent and empowered by Krsna's personal energy. Gopiparanadhana's commentaries are done according to Jiva Gosvami's own commentaries on his own work.
