Maha Shivrati fasting

Dear Sir,

I would like to know that this year 2024, we have Vaishnava Vijaya Ekadashi on 7th March 2024 and Maha Shivaratri on 8th March 2024. How can we observe both fasting simultaneously on 8th March 2024 we need to do the paran of Vijaya Ekadashi then how can we fast for Maha Shivaratri?

    PAMHO.

    Exactly this situation was there last year also. That time I had found out - on the day of Dwadasi, at the parana time, take one grain and break the ekadasi. And start the Shivratri fast. Break fast of Shivratri like how you usually do. 

    Some sampradayas break fast by having water and tulsi leaf - doing sankalpa in the mind that my ekadasi fast is completed. I also know of people who observe Shivratri as a vaishnava fast - they fast till noon, then have grains. 

    Choice is yours.
