Luck, Coincidence, karma , Mercy of Krishna.

Hare Krishna,

When we get something unexpected, expected or don't get anything despite sincere efforts, we use any of the 4 words. How these 4 words are related and how are they different from each other?  However a true devotee  of Krishna doesn't care for the 1st three and considers them as his mercy  . How do they vary for devotees and non devotees?

  • karma and mercy are devotee terminology.. luck and coincidence is atheistic..

however a devotee is never bothered by good or bad situation.. because he knows whatever comes is just a play of material nature who is acting as jailor.. he knows nothing except devotion is permanent and is summum bonum of human life

  • When a soul surrenders to Krsna, the Lord takes direct control of him/her and whatever happens to that soul is not the result of karma but the direct mercy of Krsna.

  • Others cannot change their fate, but only the devotees can change. How? Kṛṣṇa says, ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi (BG 18.66). Kṛṣṇa says, "I shall give you protection from all the resultant action of your sinful life." That is fate changed.

The only condition is that one should not commit sins considering Krishna will protect.

Hare Krishna Rahul Prabhuji. Dandavat Pranam. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

It is true that in our lives many times we face some unexpected situation where we don't find out any resonable logic from our past actions to support it. Sometimes its inconceivable sometimes we forgets the past situation for which we are in the current circumstances, which is unexpected to us. So in those situation where we totally bowled out to figure out any link from our past actions, rather than being bewildered we should find out some reasonable meaning from shastras because shastra is what knows past, present and future of a living entity.

Let us see what Bhagavad Gita say on these.

BG 18.12: For one who is not renounced, the threefold fruits of action — desirable, undesirable and mixedaccrue after death. But those who are in the renounced order of life have no such result to suffer or enjoy.

So from the above verse we see that why something undesirable stuff happen to us. It is because we have done some pious/impious activity in our past life for which we are either enjoying the fruits or suffering. Who acted piously in his past lives He will enjoy some unexpected good results in his life ( like some people suddenly wins lottery, get fame, name, wealth without laboring much) where as who acted impiously in his past lives he suffers many unexpected situation ( like Child get aborted from the mother's womb, even being laboring hard not able to make money, always deprived etc) . so all this are nothing but the results of past action.

Because when we attributes some unexpected events in our life as Luck, miracle It means we have no knowledge of Karma, and not having firm knowledge that all is controlled by god. we should know a single grass also doesn't move without God's will. As also Krishna saying in Bhagavad Gita

BG 18.61: The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone's heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy.

because a man is given results of his action by the material energy or maha-maya who works under the direction of Krishna.

BG 9.10: This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So all this proves that unexpected, expected or mixed results is not any miracle or luck . It is controlled by god and given to everyone indiscriminately according to their past actions. As Krishna saying in Bhagavad Gita

BG 9.29: I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him.

So everyone suffers results according to his past Karma, because Krishna is not partial. As a non-devotee suffers similarly a devotee also suffers , but the difference between this two is that a Devotee is in full knowledge so appreciate the reason why he is suffering, because he knows he is suffering from some past action though He might have suffer much than what he is suffering , but by Krishna's mercy his suffering has been minimized. And yes Krishna minimized because he is saying in BG 9.29: I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him. So as a friend he minimize the suffering of his devotees.

Where as a non -devotee being not having in proper knowledge see unexpected things as miracle, blame God when suffers his own results of past action. Because a non-devotee by nature antagonistic to God.
