Hare Krishna, all glories to srila prabhupada and his ISKCON movement.
I would like to add to this discussion. I find this question very interesting.
I have had the misfortune to have to take birth in a foreign body.
I think that mataji is very kind hearted to wish that the spoiled out generation could become Krishna Conscious.
From my point of view the great danger for Indian bodied people is the tendency to take Krishna for granted and to think they already know him.
I also see that the simple people who worship the powerful are foolishly worshiping British and American idols.
I am glad that ISKCON is international and I am afraid that the Indian people will choose to make Indian Society for Krishna Consciousness only for Indian and I will be thrown out as foreign rubbish.
Today I was even thinking that this could become the Indian Society for Killing Consciousness and all will be lost.
I believe that Srila Prabhupada was not a racist and that he taught and practiced real love and compassion for all living entities not only humans even animals have the right to benifit from the mercy of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
I hope all the Indian bodied devotees can follow his good example rather than just destroying all the hard work he has done.
I hope I can heal my heavy heart and try to become a better devotee rather than finding fault.
I have learned the hard way that almost no one can see inside my heart. On the outside I look just like a white, western demon.
In South Africa where I live there is a lot of racism, I am tired of the fighting I want peace but I know that I will meet more people who hate me because of my color.
I am writing this to just give my perspective, I have never been able to travel to India even though it has been the main focus of my life.
I wish all of you well, and even if you don't accept me I consider you to be my family.
Pls. don't discriminate on the basis of indian, american, etc. because Krishna is for all.The whole universe belongs to him.Actually if you see this India ,america, ausralia, etc. ,Who have made these divisions? Its we who have done this and not krsna.Just because someone is of a different colour or different language or different lifestyle we divide ourselves into groups of same type and then start blaspheming the people who don't form a part of our group. This is what is happening in case of hindus, muslims and christians. All this is also a kind of reflection of our enviousness and ego.We think that only we are good, others are lower than us.
As far as I remember even krsna has named this whole planet as "BHARAT".
After that we, human beings started fighting with each other and started to show proprietorship of different-2 areas on the planet. So, you can easily make out that this concept of different nations in itself is faulty and shows our non-acceptance of others.
I have heard about "vasudev kutumbakam".That means krsna himself wants us to live under a single authority and that is he,himself.
So Srila Prabhupada, being krsna's pure devotee also doesn't discriminate on the basis of nations.
Thus we should follow him.
Please forgive if what i have written doesn't answer your question.
Thanks and regards,
Please do not think in terms of the man made borders of nations which keep on changing with time. To be on the right path of universal love we must agree that Krishna who created out of Him infinite Brahmanda(Universes) should never be seen through a narrow sight. The whole of the creation belongs to Krishna and Krishna belongs to whole of the creation. We are just a small part and parcel of Him just like a small ray of the mighty powerful Sun.Shri Krishna is like the Sun of Pure Consciousness. We are a small ray of that Consciousness falling on to our small body made of His External Energy called Yog Maya Shakti.Let us be awares of Him through His Maya which provides every thing that is required for our bodily needs. We should surrender ourselves to His Maya, only then it will guide us to Him like a mother guides a child.
Hare Krishna!! Sisshartha Prabhuji,
Forgive me,but, you are not reading it in context of the essence of the whole para. Why do we chant 'Hare Krishna,Hare Krishna,Krishna,Krishna ,Hare ,Hare........'? Hare means Shri Krishna's internal Energy Radha rani.We always say Hare Rama. This is said again and again that we must approach The Supreme Personality of God Head Shri Krishna through his first devotee that is Radha rani. In the same way Laxmi - Narayana. What I meant by surrendering to Yog maya Shakti is that we have no other way,but to approach Shri Krishna but through His Supreme Energies. We are all bound by our Prarabdhas and as jiva we have to perform all our karmas through the material body made of Maya tattva.Only by constant awareness of Shri Krishna we can cut the bondage of Moha & Maya.Moha is due to our ignorance, due to which we consider the temporary maya as parmanent,or we try to make it permanent.Only when we finally understand that it cannot be controlled by us(We can control our sensory organs to some extent but not completely.Try controlling or stopping your breath ,and you will see.)then we surrender to it.Then, we realize that it is in the control of Shri Krishna. With this divine Knowledge the same Maya is to be seen as divine Yog Maya Shakti. We have Navaratra when every one is engaged in devotional ecstacy of Ma Durga. In the end I am writting one sanskrit prayer: ' Aum Sadchidananda, Parabramha,Purushottam,Paramatma.Shri Bhagawati sameta Shri Bhagawate namaha.' Always remember Radhe-Shyam,Laxmi-Narayan & so on.
If I have offended you by my views kindly forgive me as I am not yet fully self realized devotee.I have a long way to go,but ,I am sure Shri Krishna will bless us all as we are all trying to clean our minds of the darkness of ignorance. Hare Krishna!!
hare krishna Siddharth prabhu
Sorry If i am wrong, but I gave answer specifically for the name change.Whether indians are more racial or not, I don't know.Yes its true that in the present scenario,Indians are more in need of this knowledge.
Even if you see material development we indians are very complacent, the commitment is always lacking and their is laziness.Similarly in spiritual life we think that we know everything, but behave exactly opposite of the scriptures.
i have heard that in the previous ages our earth was known as bharat planet.I don't know about the different tracts of land.please clarify.
But how name changing simply will change the entire scenario,I can't understand
thankyou Prabhu for the information.
Hare Krishna, mataji!!! It is now doubt that imitations of pastimes of Krishna are found mostly among Indians. Most of the Indians try to imitate the divine pastimes of Radha Krishna, drag them down to a material plane and give them the shape of man-woman relationship, not knowing the spiritual significance of the eternal relationship between Parampurush and Paraprakriti. You have so many ugly Hindi songs on our Mahamantra, songs that try to establish Krishna as a lusty man hankering after gopis. They spoil the entire spiritual significance of Rasa-leela. They think if Krishna can dance with gopis and marry so many wives, why can't we do the same? So they need to be reformed, there is no doubt about that. But beyond the borders of India, there are many people who are fallen into the dark pit of material world. Amidst all luxuries, they are unaware of the Supreme goal. So, ISKCON is an all-embracing organization that seeks to reform all kinds of perverts and take them home, back to Godhead. As Prabhupada says, 'ISKCON is an oasis in the desert of material life', and anyone who is tired of traversing on this material life and seeks spiritual bliss is welcome here, irrespective of whether the person is an Indian or American. Afterall, Krishna is the God of everyone. Apart from reforming the perverted Indians(not all, there are some who are truly devoted to Him), ISKCON must reform people from all around the globe who are trapped in some way or other.
The very basis of this discussion is already wrong and it shows lack of proper understanding of the Bhagavad Gita or of Srila Prabhupada's teachings in its proper context.
The very first thing that His Divine Grace, Srila Prabhupada is trying to stress in studying the Bhagavad Gita is that we are NOT this body. We are a spirit soul and we have an eternal, loving relationship with Krsna.
O son of Påthä, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth—women, vaiçyas [merchants] and çüdras [workers]—can attain the supreme destination. [Bg. 9.32]
PURPORT It is clearly declared here by the Supreme Lord that in devotional service there is no distinction between the lower and higher classes of people. In the material conception of life there are such divisions, but for a person engaged in transcendental devotional service to the Lord there are not. Everyone is eligible for the supreme destination.
Therefore, our duty is to try to spread the Holy Name everywhere and then, when people respond positively, we slowly guide them to Krsna Conciousness by strictly following in the footsteps of our Gurus and previous Acaryas. i.e., we preach through guidance from our gurus and senior devotees who are successfully doing this already.
Hare krishna to all
Sorry if my answers have been offensive. Please forgive.
Hare Krsna! None of you are offensive at all but, on the contrary, the fact that all of you are posting here means that you are indeed serious about your Krsna Consciousness and are therefore, nice devotees.
The point is that we have so much more to discuss like:-
1. How to improve our sadhana, specifically our chanting so that we will want to do it more and more enthusiastically and sincerely.
2. We all have faults - that is why we are here in the material world. However, by advancement in our own devotional service (or simply tying to), specifically by trying our best to be aware of our own offenses while chanting (assuming that you are chanting), we will see that our faults will gradually diminish.
3. Once this happens, we will see that more and more people become attracted to our practice and, will inquire about ISKCON. This is how we create a happy Krsna Conscious Society regardless of cast, creed, nationality, etc.,.
Believe it or not, most of the people (including Indians) actually DO know their faults. However, most of us have little or no proper knowledge on how to get rid of them.
Therefore, when we simply practice our own devotional life joyfully and sincerely and show that we all can get along very well together in ISKCON and are primarily concerned with each other's spiritual development, the rest of the people will see this genuineness and will be naturally attracted.
So, do not worry about who needs Krsna Consciousness more or less than others. Everyone needs it and our job is to make ISKCON a society that has the ability to develop capable and sincere devotees all over the world.
Hare Krishna Vijay Prabhuji,
very enlightening answer,if we start doing our sadhana properly, then everything will fall in place.
