is pepsi/coke allowed in ISKCON

dear all,

I recently joined this forum as my friend (who is Krishna's devotee) asked me to join so that I get open minded views on today's problems.

I agree that all religions ask humans to be kind to each other and try to serve to All Mighty.

practices may be different.

I also believe that food that we eat makes or breaks us. I am trying to eat good food and give up my bad habits (like non-veg), though not completely successful yet.

my question is on pepsi/coke or any soft drinks which MNCs are marketing in India.

Are they used in ISKCON? are they good for drinking? Do ISKCON leaders encourage their people to drink pepsi/coke.

Does ISKCON Govindas restaurant sell pepsi/coke?

warm regds,

Gafur

  •  Hare Krishna,

Aerated drink, any drink with compressed gas are very bad for health, not only pepsi and coke.

To put it in short. A friend's relative owns a showroom of tractors. So when someone comes to take a test drive, they take it into muddy fields and you know how big are the tractor tires, they get mud all over and so difficult to clean. Before putting the tractor back in Display They just pour 2-3 litres of Pepsi or Coke on the tires and the tires clean themselves without a scrub or even touching it, that is how strong it is AS a Cleansing Agent.

    Extremely harmful for bodies.

    • dear all,

by All Mighty's grace, I stopped drinking all soft drinks few years back.

let me ask the question which I wanted to ask at the start of this thread.

I know that American companies like pepsico and cocacola are brainwashing many of us by frequent ads on tv and other social media so that their revenue increases.

since ISKCON was founded in america, I felt that pepsi/coke also uses ISKCON to sell their products.

but now reading all the replies of yours, I can understand that in ISKCON such drinks are not encouraged.

I hope to convey this to many of my friends who do not have good regards toward ISKCON. atleast I will be able to clear this aspect of ISKCON to them.

      thanks and warm regds.

      Gafur

Why to spoil our health by such like strong drinks? All those fast drinks are only for artificial sense enjoyment. They have only taste of a particular fruit but do not contain a tinge of nutritions for health.

So better to go for slow preparing but nutritious drinks, isn't it?!

So in ISKCON there are no such like rules which forbid such like drinks except if they contain caffeine or other non veg substances, but are not recommended.

Devotees usually try to live simple life closer to the field and cows. Many drinks are made out of dairy products and fruits.

Please visit this web site for many such like recipes:  http://totalveg.com/category/drinks

Pepsi and Coke are poisons and must not be consumed.

If you like the taste, you can use grape juice with bislery soda.

You can also find recipe of making coke using plain soda water and some essential oils of lemon, orange, cassisa (cinnamon) and grape juice. Stevia may also be added.

Is carbonated water with a ton of sugar... It isn't good for you. But to answer your question I've never seen iskcon devotees drink soda... They usually drink fruit drinks (not sure about selling but when they make such tasty nectar I doubt they would)

all fizzy drinks are bad for devotees because of the caffeine in them
