Is moon a naksatranam?

Hare Krishna to all! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I would humbly like to get clarification of the following verse of Bhagavad Gita from exalted devotees like you all:

adityanam aham visnur jyotisam ravir amsuman
maricir marutam asmi naksatranam aham sasi (B.G. 10.21)

Word for word:
adityanam — of the Adityas; aham — I am; visnuh — the Supreme Lord; jyotisam — of all luminaries; ravih — the sun; amsu-man — radiant; maricih — Marici; marutam — of the Maruts; asmi — I am; naksatranam — of the stars; aham — I am; sasi — the moon.

Translation: Of the Adityas I am Visnu, of lights I am the radiant sun, of the Maruts I am Marici, and among the stars I am the moon.

In this verse Lord Krishna says, " among the stars I am the moon". I don't have any knowledge of Sanskrit language. If the meaning of 'naksatranam' is 'star' then scientifically it doesn't support the fact; moon doesn't fall in the category of stars. I strongly believe that I will get a good explanation of my question. I will wholeheartedly appreciate your valuable input.

Your insignificant servant,

Amal

  • when you looking in the night all stars in the sky ,moon is the bigest light object.

thats why moon is the king in the company of the stars, despite the fact he isnt star.

the planet moon is the most beautiful among stars, and this is the point in that sloka.

    • Hare Krishna Dean Prabhu!

I appreciate your valuable time and kind advice.
