Can we control our mind by severe austerities and penances to engage the soul in the service of Krishna?? Are the thoughts emerging in the mind are Maya's tricks to befool us?? And finally is self discipline the right way towards Krishna Consciousness??

PAMHO.
Mind not in the control of self is a weapon of maya. Mind in the control of self is a tool to achieve self realisation.
Self discipline is required for such mundane things as studying for an exam, or finishing an assignment in given timeline, then what to speak of seeking the highest truth.
Mind can be controlled very simply by dovetailing our thoughts and desires towards Krsna.

This divine energy of Mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature, is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me can easily cross beyond it.
maya can be overcome by surrendering to Krishna, no other way, surrender means following orders of spiritual master
But prabhu ji if we ourselves dont do something and just say that Krishna will show mercy (no offences) and just infuse a sense of carelessness then again we will be in a trap. just like in the case of kala krishnadasa . please do correct me with this(if i am wrong at any point) and show me the right way .

surrender means you have to follow instructions of spiritual master. means
1. getting up early, chanting 16 rounds
2. read & apply bhagvad gita, do your duties in such a way that Lord is pleased
if your not chanting 16, slowly increase till u come to 16. more u chant, more you'll be free from maya
