As per Bhagawad Gita, Chapter 2, the soul is so small it cannot be seen, by the naked eye, or by any instrument. Therefore it is not possible that anyone can see one's soul or anybody else's soul.
If any guru is promising to show the soul, then that guru is not genuine prabhu.

The ways in whihc we come to know genuine guru or not:
1) whether he is in parampara?
2) Which sampradaya he belongs to?
3) Is he an acharya ( we say achar before prachar). Meaning is he following what he is preaching?
Regarding consuming dry knowledge, our process is such that it is not dry at any point in time. We associate with devotees of all age groups, from all strata of society and also all sadhana levels. By associating with them, we learn a lot about the process. Also, we make friendship and enjoy their company.
We eat prasadam, which cannot be called dry in any manner. While eating prasadam, we experience Krsna in the form of food.
Chanting is chatting with the lord. that is the time we open upto the lord and share our heart's secrets.
Reading books and hearing lectures, we acquire knowledge about the lord.
None of this is dry prabhu.

Please read the whole chapter. Despite being a scholar, Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya was not having love of godhead, he had no devotion. Therefore, Mahaprabhu gave him mercy and made him a devotee.
There has to be basic faith to start praying. If that is not there, it is very difficult. Then that person should eat prasadam and become purified to the extent that basic faith can sprout.

Devotee, For a question that seems really tough to answer. Wether the question is about numbers or words, all we need to do is make the broad question smaller, make it applicable to every day life. So here's a comparrison= can someone who has never build a house before, tell you the proper instructions to build one now? Obviously not. One simply can not preach what one does not do. You cannot tell others to be a vegetarian if you are not one yourself. You can not tell others to stop smoking, if you smoke yourself. Just like that you are not fit to tell others about the Soul, when you don't know yourself. Dear devotee, this is why we pray to Lord to show us the right Gurus, the right leaders in our life.Pray to Him, and you will soon find people who show more actions of worship than just speak about it.

I did not completely understand your question...so I will answer to what I understand. Hope this answers your question.
When a student goes to school, there will be some teacher that know how to teach very very well, and understand the subject well. But there are also some teachers that are not as good at teaching. The student can not control which teacher He/She gets. If you find yourself trying to control the uncontrollable one must surrender to the Lord. Devotee, you don't need any other Guru but the Lord Himself. He is the best Guru, pray to Him, and He shall come to you in one form or another as a Guru that will "SHOW SWROOP OF SOUL AT THE TIME OF INTITUTION AND DONATE TATTAVABASTU AT THE TIME OF SIKSHA." Until He comes please find the Guru within yourself. The teacher you'r MIND will understand the most is your own SOUL. There are many many books about the Lord. Pray to Him, Wait for Him, and Learn about Him. Walk half of the Bridge to Him, and He will walk the other half of the bridge to you. Meet HIM in the middle.
