How important is to get initiated? What if a person is a devotee but not an initiated one?

Need for accepting a bona fide Spiritual Master:-
i) It is the verdict of the Vedic Scripture that to understand Vedic
knowledge & to realize the Truth one must approach a spiritual
master.
ii) Only by following the order of such a bona fide spiritual master can
one solve the problems of material existence and attain pure
devotion to Lord Krishna, which is the perfection of life.
iii) To emphasize this point even the Lord accepts a spiritual master
when He descends into this material world.
I remember that there was a lecture and Prabhupad had said something to this affect, One must continuously improve one's Krishna Consciousness, gradual spiritual progress.
Taking initiation is one of the steps in spiritual progress.
One must become Krishna conscious to qualify to be relieved from perpetual cycle of life and death. Krishna conscious means to be completely Krishna conscious else if you are only to a certain degree then you'll get liberation but not from the cycle of life and death. This means that you might get liberation to some other higher spiritual planets but not to Goloka Vrindavana. You have to realize and accept that one's position in regards to Krishna is perpetual servitude to Krishna. Then you'll be qualified to be relieved from the cycle of life and death and get liberated to Goloka Vrindavana to the Lotus feet of Krishna.
