We can use the smaller one as tags inside the books that we read.
There are so many unwanted things in home that we keep thinking may be of use some day. So how much space the images take anyway. Why purchase these items when we dont want to keep.

I saw a documentary last week about India and it showed how the "lower caste" would make their living by "fishing" for items in the ocean and river and breaking it down and selling the wood or whatever. And by items I mean murtis or even the coins that get thrown in.
It seems like placing it in the river was done in the past, but with the rate of pollution building up especially in the Yamuna, that's no longer a good practice
To add, why do either when you can just give it to some other devotee?
