    Hare Krsna,

My obeisances to all devotees, guru and gauranga.

As already stated by other devotees, vedas were scripted by Vyasadev who is the literary incarnation of Krsna. Although to me and you, Vyasadev looks like a human being, he is not. He is an expansion and not along the same lines as us living beings. Each expansion has a purpose for their manifestation. Vyasadev gave us God's instructions in written form. These instructions are eternal and hence has survived and will survive the test of time. The original instructions came from Krsna himself and hence Prabhupada insisted everyone to take instructions from a bonafide parampara system to know and understand authorized work.

The first verse of Srimad Bhagavatam contains this line

tene brahma hṛdā ya ādi-kavaye muhyanti yat sūrayaḥ

    which translates to

It is He (krsna) only who first imparted the Vedic knowledge unto the heart of Brahmājī, the original living being. So Brahmaji is just reciting what Krsna has instructed Him.

Now why are the Vedas given to us? As already mentioned, its a manual and we all know that each appliance or gadget comes with a manual (as Rashmi mataji has already pointed out), we know its there, we take a look at it, flick through a few pages and store it away never to open it until we desperately need to know fix a broken appliance or gadget. Vedas teach us to lead a pious and just life. In this age of Kali yuga, we dont have the intelligence to read and understand the vedas completely nor do we have the patience to follow every instruction given in them. Hence we flick through few pages and store it away never to open it again.

Krsna says in Chapter 15: The Yoga of the Supreme Person

    TEXT 15

    sarvasya caham hrdi sannivisto

    mattah smrtir jnanam apohanam ca

vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyo

    vedanta-krd veda-vid eva caham

    TRANSLATION

I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas am I to be known; indeed I am the compiler of Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.

A person who knows krsna is already an expert in reading all the vedas. How does one know krsna then? Its through devotional service. Just like, how does one get to know a girl friend or a new wife, you spend time with her, try and understand her, talk to her, enquire about her views, likes and dislikes. Similarly, Krsna is also a person, we love him through devotional work which gives him pleasure. By our sadhana we are trying to understand Krsna everyday. Krsna says “As one surrenders, I reciprocate accordingly”. So every devotee is doing His best to understand Krsna through devotional service.

There is a pastime where Vyasadev is feeling sad and lost after writing all the vedas and Narada muni requests him to compose literature glorifying krsna's pastimes and his devotees and Bhagavatam is a result of that.

As Rashmi mataji said, faith is the foundation on which devotional service is built. We put faith (read blind faith) into many things every day but when it comes to spirituality we take a step back saying there is no proof or this is mythology. I recently read a line which goes like this

tell a man there are millions and billions of stars and he will believe you without questioning but tell him there is paint on the park bench and he wants to touch it just to make sure.

Prabhupada always said - krsna conscious is not blind faith, it is a science and the eternal scientist is krsna. A child puts faith in his/her parents and its parents responsibility to care for and protect the kid(s) and devotees do the same as Krsna is our eternal father.

Apologies for a lengthy response prabhu.

    Chant and be happy.

    Srila prabhupada ki jai..

    Hare krsna

  • Dear Sudheer

U have asked a very intelligent question

Kindly read the Introduction of Srila Prabhupada`s Ishopanisad and you will get the perfect answer.

  • Thank you all for such wisdom regarding historical truths. Parampara or disciplicSucsession- means "the un-broken path/(chan) of truth as-it-is, /absolute or the conclusion of truth per the highly qualified men Gurus & God incarnations & not just common beings. Honesty is not a common feather in mammals cheating is for this reason edification is was & always will be an important aspect of preaching I.e. Supporting one's conclusions with reference s from authoritative texts & although the 1st child of VISHNU_Brama is a (Jiva atma just like us. With a little research we /one can understand that He is much more than just a man) do to His absolute understanding! Perfect question Perfect answers. Thank you 'll again. All glory to your scholarly Sava. & good night.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Vedas are like a manual on how to lead human form of life, what is the purpose of human form of life.

To explain further, a computer, car or any gadget we buy comes with a user manual on how to use/ maintain it, right? Is there anything created by man which is useless - whihc has no use? I am sure the answer is no. Same way, when a human being cannot/ does not create anything whihc is of no use, how is it that the creator, who is admittedly much more intelligent than a human being, create human beings without any purpose? That same way, the creator has given the Vedas as the manual for how to lead human life and what is the purpose of human life.

THen how can the vedas have been created by any man? It has to come from the same creator who made man, right?

The first step in devotion is adau shraddha prabhu. Like how in science, even geometry, we start with some assumptions and then proceed to study the science or theoram, and end up proving that the assumption is right. That same way, to read and understand (say) Gita, we need to have certain assumptions. That is the reason the Introduction to the Bhagawad Gita written by Srila Prabhupada is so important. All devotees are expected to read that before starting to read the GIta.

Our foray into sprituality starts with faith prabhu. That is the most basic that we need to keep. As we progress, that faith grows from a sapling and becomes a banyan tree.

I hope I have been able to explain. If you still have doubts, pls feel free to ask.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

  • Vedas was written down by Sri Vyasa muni, but was created by Sri Brahma far before that.

That original written scriptures was partially  changed and modified by unqualified brahmana caste members during last 5000 years, especially historical  scriptures called fifth Veda.

Such practice will continue till end of kali yuga, but in the beginning of satya yuga, original Vedas and dharma principles will be revived and established.
