Namaskar

I am reciting Gita every day and some books and tv channels say that when we're reading Gita or anything related to God we must pray in the early morning every day. Is it right When I am reciting Gita I must read Gita Prarthana to god? Gita Prarthana means I wake up

the early morning then I start brushing then attending nature calls then bathing then read pradhan (praying)

to Sri Krishna to told Gita, praying Vyasa muni to wrote Gita and read Phala Sruthi (The effect of reciting). This is Gita Prarthana the bold ones said I must-read.

Do I have to read this is it compulsory

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

IN addition to what Gayatri mataji rightly mentioned in her reply, it is not necessary to do prarthana in the early morning. It can be recited everytime you pick up Gita to read. It coudl be any time of the day.

The mantras Gayatri has mentioned in her post is called mangalacharan, which we normally recite before any spiritual class.

It is showing respect to Gita, to guru parampara. This way, we are more receptive to the knowledge which is not acquired just by reading, it is revealed by realising.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

  • Hare Krishna,

I know that these days there is lot of parachaar on tv and all channels and they bring up daily new new  slokas and quotes from various texts and say recite these before doing this or otherwise you wont get the real benefit etc,

It is not bad that if you able to recite prarthana sloka and phala sruthi sloka that is good not a problem. But It is not a must.

How many slokas you have memorized?

If you have Bhagwad gita As it is book  which is written by Srila Prbahupada.. and if you have telugu version of it.. Bhagwad gita Yadathatham.

Then you can read the preface and Introduction of the book.  There is only guru prarthana sloka,

    oṁ ajñāna-timirāndhasya
    jñānāñjana-śalākayā
    cakṣur unmīlitaṁ yena
    tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ

I was born in the darkest ignorance, and my spiritual master opened my eyes with the torch of knowledge. I offer my respectful obeisances unto him.

    śrī-caitanya-mano-’bhīṣṭaṁ
    sthāpitaṁ yena bhū-tale
    svayaṁ rūpaḥ kadā mahyaṁ
    dadāti sva-padāntikam

When will Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī Prabhupāda, who has established within this material world the mission to fulfill the desire of Lord Caitanya, give me shelter under his lotus feet?

    vande ’haṁ śrī-guroḥ śrī-yuta-pada-
    kamalaṁ śrī-gurūn vaiṣṇavāṁś ca
    śrī-rūpaṁ sāgrajātaṁ saha-gaṇa-
    raghunāthānvitaṁ taṁ sa-jīvam
    sādvaitaṁ sāvadhūtaṁ parijana-
    sahitaṁ kṛṣṇa-caitanya-devaṁ
    śrī-rādhā-kṛṣṇa-pādān saha-gaṇa-
    lalitā-śrī-viśākhānvitāṁś ca

I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of my spiritual master and unto the feet of all Vaiṣṇavas. I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī along with his elder brother Sanātana Gosvāmī, as well as Raghunātha Dāsa and Raghunātha Bhaṭṭa, Gopāla Bhaṭṭa and Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī. I offer my respectful obeisances to Lord Kṛṣṇa Caitanya and Lord Nityānanda along with Advaita Ācārya, Gadādhara, Śrīvāsa and other associates. I offer my respectful obeisances to Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and Śrī Kṛṣṇa along with Their associates Śrī Lalitā and Viśākhā.

    he kṛṣṇa karuṇā-sindho

    gopeśa gopikā-kānta
    rādhā-kānta namo ’stu te

O my dear Kṛṣṇa, You are the friend of the distressed and the source of creation. You are the master of the gopīs and the lover of Rādhārāṇī. I offer my respectful obeisances unto You.

    tapta-kāñcana-gaurāṅgi
    rādhe vṛndāvaneśvari

I offer my respects to Rādhārāṇī, whose bodily complexion is like molten gold and who is the Queen of Vṛndāvana. You are the daughter of King Vṛṣabhānu, and You are very dear to Lord Kṛṣṇa.

I offer my respectful obeisances unto all the Vaiṣṇava devotees of the Lord. They can fulfill the desires of everyone, just like desire trees, and they are full of compassion for the fallen souls.

hare kṛṣṇa hare kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa hare hare
hare rāma hare rāma rāma rāma hare hare

This much is only given there in the introduction book. These are more than enough for reciting Bhagwad gita... Where in you are remembering offering respects, to your guru, and Sri Chaitnaaya mahaprabhu, your 6 goswamis, Sri krishna, Shrimati Radharani, lalitha sakhi and 8 sakhis who are most important and all then, all the vaishnavas who are like wish fulfilling desire tree. It includes even Vyas muni ji also. He is also Vaishanava and Partial incartion of Lord Sri Krishna.

I don't think there is any more requirement of reciting another prarthana slokas ...But still you have memroized and learnt a prarthana sloka for starting reciting Bhagwad gita then it is well and good but please learn the above slokas also.

And It is very useful and beneficial to buy a copy of Bhagwad gita yadathatam ( telugu version) instead of reading it online or in PDF format.

One copy doesn't cost much, just keep it with you it is good to have minimum BG with you.

    Hare Krishna.
