Dhiroddhata

A person who is very envious, proud, easily angered, restless and complacent is called dhiroddhata by learned scholars. Such qualities were visible in the character of Lord Krsna, because when He was writing a letter to Kalayavana, Krsna addressed him as a sinful frog. In His letter Krsna advised Kalayavana that he should immediately go and find some dark well for his residence, because there was a black snake named Krsna who was very eager to devour all such sinful frogs. Krsna reminded Kalayavana that He could turn all the universes to ashes simply by looking at them.

  • Hare Krishna prabhuji,

From what I have heard,  lust ,anger ,greed , etc  can be engaged in the service of lord

Lust- one can have many children of he is lusty but he should make them krishna conscious, this was also told by srila Prabhupada in his purports in BG

Anger-  for eg- lord hanuman used his anger to set fire to the city of lanka, but by doing so he became the greatest devotee of lord Ram , these words were used by srila Prabhupada in BG

Greed- if one is greedy he CAN earn money given that he uses (atleast a fraction) in the service of lord

Attraction - if one gets attracted to the transcendental, beautiful shyamsundar form of lord then attraction is also purified, and etc.

BUT envy is one which cannot be employed in the service of lord, so it must be destroyed.

    • Hare Krishna Akshit Prabhu

That is very good from the pont of view of a devotee.

I was speaking from Krishna's point of view since Dhiroddhata is a Personality trait of Krishna. Sometimes Bhima, the second brother of the Pandavas, is also described as dhiroddhata.

Krsna's dhiroddhata qualities have been accepted as great because Krsna uses them only to protect His devotees.

      • Oh, sorry for misunderstanding
