To achieve anything, one needs to be patience and perseverance. This is especially true for spritual ventures. When you are ready, your guru will be revealed to you. Until then, chant sincerely and try to pick up the tenets of bhakti, one baby step at a time.
Naturally, for your family, all this change in you is new and like caring affectionate family, they are trying to protect you. Do not be baffled or confrontational. Continue to chant with sincerity in your heart. If family is not permitting gopi chandan tilak, apply water tilak. Simply take some water in your left palm, and apply tilak as if its gopi chandan on all 12 parts of body with the relevant name of the lord. Nobody in family will know, but Krsna will know. Anyways, you are doing this for Him only na.
Regarding not wearing kanthi mala, try to wear a single roung mala around your neck, that can get hidden in the dress, so they will not know. If they do come to know and ask, Gujratis are so much into tulsi mala, they should be able to accept. For wearing kanthi mala, one has to folllow the 4 regulative principles. I hope you are doing. Otherwise wait, with sincere desire in your heart.
Obstacles in our path to bhakti is simply to make our resolve srtonger.
