  • Totally agree with Abhishek Prabhu - "devotees play holi to give pleasure to Lord." and not for entertainment, exploitation and just fun!

  • Yes Devotees do celebrate Holi as Sri Gaura Purnaima, Lord Gauranga appeared on this planet to spread the colors of devotional service to us. so devotees fast and pray to Gauranga. In the first Gaura purnima festival organised at Kheturi village by Srila Narrottam das Thakur , all the great Vaishnavas had assembled including Sri Jhanava, consort of Sri Nityananda Prabhu and they all played with colors. However playing Holi in Devotional service is far different than playing holi in general society. devotees play holi to give pleasure to Lord. Please see the darshan at ISKCON Vrindavan on Gaura Purnima of previous years, Deities smear colors on their cheeks and have water pistons. Radha Gopinath at chowpatty also have their color festival. Do see the Bhaktivedanta Manor Holi pics.

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

Lord Krsna Himself played holi and till date, the holi of braj bhoomi is famous and covered by even news channels. Like how having milk and curd is not imitating the lord, same way, playing holi is not imitating the lord.

In fact, in North India, the day before Holi - Gaur Purnima for vaishnavas, we have the holika dahan festival. Where there are bonfires across cities and the Prahlad bamboo is taken out after the fire is lit. People will roast papad and the new grain from the fields in that bonfire and eat it. THat is their way of praying to Prahlad Maharaj and acknowledging the Holika burning pastime.

If you wish, you can play first with Krsna. Ideally, kesar/ saffron with gulabjal is applied. That was the original holi. Then you may play with flower petals. I know of atleast one ISKCON temple where this was done last year. Then you can play with family. If you wish to take this further, you may keep the lordships in that flower holi state and offer some foodstuff to them, specifically thandai, like how we eat and drink while playing holi. Then after some time, you have to clean the entire altar and make them wear new clothes after abhishek.

Krsna was so playful in Vrindavan pastimes, thats why those pastimes are so alluring.

  • Hare Krishna Mataji..

Devotees of the Lord first celebrate Holi with Him and then with their friends, relatives and family members.

    Happy Holi..

  • Who are devotees Mataji ? Anyone who has life is a devotee.Only thing is that some are aware and some are unaware. Go ahead and play Holi Mataji. Dont think that you are imitating the Lord or anything like that.

Kindly Spread the Teachings of Lord Chaitanya
