we have to pray to Krishna to help us. If we are not serious we have to pray to Him.
And He will help. But we should pray with tears and with sincerity.

When we develop love for Krishna automatically then we are very serious about Bhakti. But when we don't we have to follow the rules and regulations. If you want to advance in Krishna Consciousness then you have to chant 16 rounds and follow the 4 regulative principles: 1. No eating meat, fish, or eggs 2. No gambling 3. No use of intoxicants 4. No illicit sex.
