    Hare Krishna! Dandavat Pranam!

    Few points from a discourse: Jiva is the 'immediate' cause while the lord is the 'remote' cause. A plant only grows from a seed but the seed needs 'land/earth' to grow. The lord is the 'land' and 'seed' is Jiva. Our desire in this life is largely influenced by 'karma' (which is 'past' desire) but with the 'freedom' given by the lord, the desire can be changed to progress towards the lord and get rid of the bonding/attachment towards worldly affairs.

    From limited learning/knowledge, the source of 'why' the creation starts is not directly answered in the scriptures, but the scriptures only explains the source of problems in this life and how one can get over it. Great acharyas and spiritual leaders have accepted the scriptures so it is wise to accept and practice sadhana to end this difficult cycle of birth and death, without worrying about, how & why the birth started in 1st place.

    SB 6.18.27-28 — Thinking in this way [with a desire for a son to kill Indra], Diti began constantly acting to satisfy Kaśyapa by her pleasing behavior. O King, Diti always carried out Kaśyapa’s orders very faithfully, as he desired. With service, love, humility and control, with words spoken very sweetly to satisfy her husband, and with smiles and glances at him, Diti attracted his mind and brought it under her control.

    SB 6.18.29 — Although Kaśyapa Muni was a learned scholar, he was captivated by Diti’s artificial behavior, which brought him under her control. Therefore he assured his wife that he would fulfill her desires. Such a promise by a husband is not at all astonishing.
    SB 6.18.30 — In the beginning of creation, Lord Brahmā, the father of the living entities of the universe, saw that all the living entities were unattached. To increase population, he then created woman from the better half of man’s body, for woman’s behavior carries away a man’s mind.

    The Lord is cause of all causes, but because we are His parcels, we have the same such quality.  Therefore living beings and the Lord, together, are the cause of the ''fall'' in the illusion.   :

    SB 7.7.19-20 — “Ātmā” refers to the Supreme Lord or the living entities. Both of them are spiritual, free from birth and death, free from deterioration and free from material contamination. They are individual, they are the knowers of the external body, and they are the foundation or shelter of everything. They are free from material change, they are self-illuminated, they are the cause of all causes, and they are all-pervading. They have nothing to do with the material body, and therefore they are always uncovered. With these transcendental qualities, one who is actually learned must give up the illusory conception of life, in which one thinks, “I am this material body, and everything in relationship with this body is mine.”

    totally confusing topic. there are innumerable nos of mosquitoes rats rodents ants trees aquatics and other small animals. every animal breeds and gives rise to approx another dozen of them. then its said not only this planet but there are jivatmas on other planets too how could so many countless jivatmas fall??. theres i think theres some much deeper meaning

      We are seeing so many jivas in the material world, thats why thinking, how so many jivas can be in jail? The actual fact is that the material world is only 1/4th of the universe. Spiritual worlds are 3/4th, like any normal city, jail will always  be smaller than other parts of the city.

      Whenever a soul leaves the material world and departs for the spiritual world, Maha Vishnu releases another soul from His abdomen to come to the material world. Thats why it appears that there are so many jivas in the material world.
