First decide why ur at that place. To listen to the lecture or chant. If u want to chant then thats glorious, but why waste aphysical space where another devotee might fit in to the lecture room to have some divine experience.

Hare Krishna dear Devotees, please accept my humble obeisances! all glories to Srila Prabhupada!
as our senses are not ideal we can not do two things at one time.
Our consciousness will be on our ears or in our tongue or other senses.
In this way when we hear the lecture we have to try to hear that lecture only attentively not japa. Otherwise it will be disrespect to a speaker. We can not hear both things at the same time. Or we will hurt the Holy Names by chanting it inattentively.
better to do one thing but in perfect way rather than many things but not good.
