HAS LORD CHANGED MY DESTINY??

Hare Krishna Jai Srila A.C. BHAKTIVEDANTA SWAMI PRABHUPADA, ACHARYAS, VAISHNAVAS, BHAKTI MAHARANI, LORD HARI AND ALL ASPIRING DEVOTEES!!

Has Lord changed my destiny?

One astrologer had told in 1995 or sometime around my body’s birth that I would be able to earn lot of money. Actually, the way was clear. I was good at academics. In Class 10, I got more than 90% and got Rs 3,000. I never was lazy about academics. But in Class 11, I read books of HIS DIVINE GRACE A.C. BHAKTIVEDANTA SWAMI PRABHUPADA, just for time pass and interst in Hindu mythology and stories. But then my consciousness changed and now I accept Sastras and Acharyas as Great Authorities. All pastimes of Lord are real, not myths. But this has affected my academics. I have given 3 papers in Class 12. Out of these, physics and Chemistry had made me upset. I dislike them because it contains Godless matters and Chemistry says Life comes from chemicals. MY LAZINESS IS ALSO ONE REASON. I AM DEPRESSED. I DON’T KNOW WHAT WILL BE MY FUTURE. IT IS SAID BY SRILA BHAKTISIDDHANTHA SARASVATI THAKURA THAT LIFE IS MEANT FOR GLORIFICATION OF LORD HARI, IF THAT IS STOPPED WHAT NEED IS THERE TO CARRY THE LIFE. MY ONLY HOPE IS LORD’S PROMISE IN BHAGAVAD GITA 9.22, SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM VERSES WHICH SAY THAT KARMIS DO NOT GAIN ANYTHING BY KARMA BUT ASPIRING SADHAKAS DO NOT LOOSE ANYTHING EVEN AFTER FALL DOWN. I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE THIS HUMAN BODY UNLESS I SERVE VAISHNAVAS, GLORIFY LORD AND DEVOTEES, PERFORM EKADASHI FAST, VILLAGE DVARKAVATI DHAAM AND NAVADVIPA DHAAM AND BECOME AN INSTRUMENT IN PREACHING. PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR BLESSINGS TO RELIEVE ME OF THIS STRESS. I AM NOT ASKING LORD FOR GOOD MARKS, ETC. BECAUSE NITYO NITYANAM…, SUPREME LORD MAINTAINS EVERYONE, WHY ASK FOR MATERIAL BOONS, HAPPINESS-DISTRESS COMES AND GOES, ONLY BHAKTI REMAINS SOLID ASSET FOREVER.

A devotee may foolishly ask for material benedictions, but Lord Kåñëa does not give him such benedictions, despite the devotee's prayers. Therefore people who are very attached to material life do not generally become devotees of Kåñëa or Viñëu. Instead they become devotees of the demigods (kämais tais tair håta jïänäù prapadyante 'nya-devatäù [Bg. 7.20]). The benedictions of the demigods, however, are condemned in Bhagavad-gétä. Antavat tu phalaà teñäà tad bhavaty alpa-medhasäm: [Bg. 7.23] "Men of small intelligence worship the demigods, and their fruits are limited and temporary." A non-Vaiñëava, one who is not engaged in the service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is considered a fool with a small quantity of brain substance.

TRANSLATION "Kåñëa says, 'If one engages in My transcendental loving service but at the same time wants the opulence of material enjoyment, he is very, very foolish. Indeed, he is just like a person who gives up ambrosia to drink poison.

I AM NOT ABLE TO FOLLOW FOUR REGUALTIVE PRINCIPLES. PLEASE BLESS ME AND RELIEVE ME OF THIS ANXIETY SO THAT I CAN FOLLOW PRINCIPLES AND CHANT. I ALSO WANT TO ASK WHETHER LORD HAS CHANGED MY DESTINY?

PURPORT This is an example of destiny. King Saudäsa was condemned by the curse of Vasiñöha, and therefore even though he was well qualified he could not restrain himself from becoming a tigerlike Räkñasa, for this was his destiny. Tal labhyate duùkhavad anyataù sukham (SB 1.5.18). As one is put into distress by destiny, destiny can also put one in a happy situation. Destiny is extremely strong, but one can change destiny if one comes to the platform of Kåñëa consciousness. Karmäëi nirdahati kintu ca bhakti-bhäjäm (Bs. 5.54). Science of Self Realization Chapter 6 Excerpt Interviewer: Then the question may be raised that if destiny cannot be checked, then why not let every newborn child simply run around like an animal, and whatever is destined to happen to him will happen? Çréla Prabhupäda: No, the advantage is that you can train him spiritually. Therefore it is said, tasyaiva hetoù prayateta kovidaù: you should engage your energy for self-realization. Ahaituky apratihatä: devotional service, Kåñëa consciousness, cannot be checked. Just as material destiny cannot be checked, your advancement in spiritual life cannot be checked if you endeavor for it. Actually, Kåñëa will change destiny—but only for His devotee. He says, ahaà tväà sarva-päpebhyo mokñayiñyämi: "I shall give you all protection from all reactions of sinful activities." (Bhagavad-gétä 18.66) For instance, if one is condemned by the law court to be hanged, no one can check it. Even the same judge who has given this verdict cannot check it. But if the defendant begs for the mercy of the king, who is above all the laws, then the king can check it. Therefore, our business is to surrender to Kåñëa. If we artificially want to be more happy by economic development, that is not possible. So many men are working so hard, but does it mean that everyone will become a Henry Ford or a Rockefeller? Everyone is trying his best. Mr. Ford's destiny was to become a rich man, but does it mean that every other man who has worked as hard as Ford will become a rich man like Ford? No. This is practical. You cannot change your destiny simply by working hard like an ass or a dog. But you can utilize that energy for improving your Kåñëa consciousness. SB 1.2.8 TEXT 8 TEXT DaMaR" SvNauiïTa" Pau&Saa& ivZvKSaeNak-QaaSau Ya" ) NaaeTPaadYaeÛid riTa& é[Ma Wv ih ke-vl/Ma( )) 8 )) dharmaù svanuñöhitaù puàsäà viñvaksena-kathäsu yaù notpädayed yadi ratià çrama eva hi kevalam SYNONYMS dharmaù—occupation; svanuñöhitaù—executed in terms of one's own position; puàsäm—of humankind; viñvaksena—the Personality of Godhead (plenary portion); kathäsu—in the message of; yaù—what is; na—not; utpädayet—does produce; yadi—if; ratim—attraction; çramaù—useless labor; eva—only; hi—certainly; kevalam—entirely. TRANSLATION The occupational activities a man performs according to his own position are only so much useless labor if they do not provoke attraction for the message of the Personality of Godhead. PURPORT There are different occupational activities in terms of man's different conceptions of life. To the gross materialist who cannot see anything beyond the gross material body, there is nothing beyond the senses. Therefore his occupational activities are limited to concentrated and extended selfishness. Concentrated selfishness centers around the personal body—this is generally seen amongst the lower animals. Extended selfishness is manifested in human society and centers around the family, society, community, nation and world with a view to gross bodily comfort. Above these gross materialists are the mental speculators who hover aloft in the mental spheres, and their occupational duties involve making poetry and philosophy or propagating some ism with the same aim of selfishness limited to the body and the mind. But above the body and mind is the dormant spirit soul whose absence from the body makes the whole range of bodily and mental selfishness completely null and void. But less intelligent people have no information of the needs of the spirit soul. Because foolish people have no information of the soul and how it is beyond the purview of the body and mind, they are not satisfied in the performance of their occupational duties. The question of the satisfaction of the self is raised herein. The self is beyond the gross body and subtle mind. He is the potent active principle of the body and mind. Without knowing the need of the dormant soul, one cannot be happy simply with emolument of the body and mind. The body and the mind are but superfluous outer coverings of the spirit soul. The spirit soul's needs must be fulfilled. Simply by cleansing the cage of the bird, one does not satisfy the bird. One must actually know the needs of the bird himself. The need of the spirit soul is that he wants to get out of the limited sphere of material bondage and fulfill his desire for complete freedom. He wants to get out of the covered walls of the greater universe. He wants to see the free light and the spirit. That complete freedom is achieved when he meets the complete spirit, the Personality of Godhead. There is a dormant affection for God within everyone; spiritual existence is manifested through the gross body and mind in the form of perverted affection for gross and subtle matter. Therefore we have to engage ourselves in occupational engagements that will evoke our divine consciousness. This is possible only by hearing and chanting the divine activities of the Supreme Lord, and any occupational activity which does not help one to achieve attachment for hearing and chanting the transcendental message of Godhead is said herein to be simply a waste of time. This is because other occupational duties (whatever ism they may belong to) cannot give liberation to the soul. Even the activities of the salvationists are considered to be useless because of their failure to pick up the fountainhead of all liberties. The gross materialist can practically see that his material gain is limited only to time and space, either in this world or in the other. Even if he goes up to the Svargaloka, he will find no permanent abode for his hankering soul. The hankering soul must be satisfied by the perfect scientific process of perfect devotional service.
