Hare Krishna, please accept my humble obeisances...

Can anyone tell me the complete rules for Papamochani Ekadasi fasting?

And yesterday, while fasting, I ate one tofu... I didn't know that it was made from soy bean... I also plucked some Tulsi leaves yesterday for offer to the Supreme Lord and the Supreme Personality of Godhead... Will the Supreme Personality of Godhead forgive me for eating it and plucking Tulsi leaves yesterday?

I saw in a website that we should pluck Tulsi leaves a day before Papamochani Ekadasi to offer to the Supreme Lord... Please enlighten me with the knowledge of the rules of Papamochani Ekadasi...

Your humble servant,

Kavenesh

  • Hare Krishna,
If you had to offer tulasi leaves you should pluck before day itself. As tulasi mata ji also would be doing vrata
we shouldn't distrub her and hurt her. Next day after ekadashi thats dwadashi day. .. even that day you shouldn't pluck tulasi leaves you need to give her rest that day.
And NEVER EAT TULASI leaves. If possible swallow them.
    Hare Krishna.
    • Hare Krishna mataji, I didn't know this earlier, when Ekadashi... Will Srimati Tulsi Devi forgive me for doing it?
      • Its okay we are all kids and in learning phase. We commit mistakes. To err is human. Try not to do a blunder... thats all we can say.
        Lord says in BG.-
        saha-jam karma kaunteya
        sa-dosam api na tyajet
        sarvarambha hi dosena
        dhumenagnir ivavrtah
Every endeavor is covered by some sort of fault, just as fire is covered by smoke. Therefore one should not give up the work which is born of his nature, O son of Kunti, even if such work is full of fault.
        • Hare Krishna mataji, thank you for enlightening me, mataji!
  • Hare krishna hare ram kavenesh prabhuji,

There are several rules to be followed while observing any Ekadashi, not just papamochani Ekadashi. There are different ways to observe Ekadashi fast and they are as follows:
    1. Nirjala: The one in which you do not even consume water. So no water, no fruits, no milk, and no grains. In short, you are consuming nothing when you are observing this fast. I think the only legit thing which you can consume is air!!
    2. Falari: This is where you can consume milk and fruits and nothing else. So you can consume solid as well as liquid food items but it shouldn't contain grains.
    3. Sajala: In this case, you are allowed to consume water, juices or anything liquid but nothing which contains grains. Also, you cannot consume fruits in this case.

If you are unable to sustain the vrat in any of the above forms mentioned, then, in that case, you can consume water, milk, fruits, nuts, and potato.

If you are initiated then, in that case, you cannot shave, neither cut your nails nor you can sleep during day time on ekadashi.

There is no need, in particular, to pluck Tulasi leaves since you can pray to Tulasi Mata and give water and do puja since Tulasi also is a plant and it has life as well. Having said that, yes you can serve Tulasi leaf to Lord Vishnu but yes it should be done one to two days prior to Ekadashi.

      • all those veggies that grow under the ground like carrots, potatoes, onion, garlic and mushrooms are not exposed to sunlight and they have a tendency to make the person go into ignorance. They are avoided mostly by Pure devotees of lord.
