Hare Krishna

Hare Krishna,

Once one of my Muslim friends asked me what does "Hare Krishna" really mean. I couldn't answer him. Because I don't know what does "Hare Krishna" actually mean. Can anyone help me out and let me know what these two words signify.

Yours sincerely,

Kaushik

  • Hare Krsna,

Hare signifies Radharani, Krsna's eternal consort who is the expansionary energy of the Lord. Krsna is the Lord himself. When saying these two combined, we are calling out to the Lord and his energy.

  • Hare means `O my Lord, and Krishna means black.

When He was a child, His devotees in Vraja gave Him nick name Krishna, because of His dark blue skin complexion.

Therefore translated from Sanskrit, ''Hare Krishna '' means :     ''O my Lord with the dark complexion''.

    Hare Krsna PRabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Hare is the energy of the lord, and KRishna is the lord. Hare Krsna - when we chant - we are calling the lord and the energy of the lord. Krsna means all attractive.
